Chapter 18: The Truth

Spencer's POV

"I don't know Bobby. We gotta find this guy soon or else we're all gonna go stir crazy in that house."

He sighs as he runs a hand across his tired face.

I feel bad asking so much of him.

I know he's been working around the clock trying to catch this guy and me rushing him is just adding to his stress.

"We're doing our best Spence but I can only trust a handful of guys with this since we know it's someone in the station. Maybe bringing her here wasn't the best idea."

We round the corner to check up on Liz and when I see her rocking in her seat, I know that something is wrong.

"Oh no. No,we were only gone a minute!"

I rush over to her side and gently place my hands on her arms as she begins to hyperventilate.

"Liz? Baby calm down. I'm right here with you. I'm here."

She opens her eyes and I can feel her body relax as she registers my presence.

"That's it baby. Just breathe."

She nods her head and wraps her arms around my neck, clinging to me.

"Spence! The guy...I saw him! He's...he's a fucking cop!"

I tense up.

How does she know? Did he say something to her?

I gently push her back so that I can look into her eyes.

"What did he look like? Did you see his badge?"

She shakes her head and I try not to show my disdain but I'm furious.

He got way too close to her.

This cocky some of a bitch isn't worried about us catching him in the slightest.

I swear when I figure out who it is, I'm going to deal with him personally.

"That's alright. Let me tell Bobby what happened and we'll get out of here."

I turn to go find him but freeze when I feel her hand grab mine.

"How are you so calm? I just told you that a member of your own squad has been stalking me for week and you barely reacted."

My throat dries up when I realize that I slipped up.

Fuck.

"I'm just trying to keep it together babe. That's all."

I feel her grip tighten and brace myself.

"You knew...didn't you?"

I don't say anything.

I turn around and reach for her but she retracts.

"No! Don't..."

Tears cloud her eyes as she grabs her coat and heads for the door.

"Liz wait!"

I look over at Bobby and he waves me off before I run after her.

I don't see her at first when I step outside and I think the worst.

What if he knew this would be her reaction?

What if he was out here waiting for her?

I shouldn't have brought her here.

I knew it wasn't safe. God, I'm so stupid!

I scan the street looking for her and catch a glimpse of her long curly hair rounding a corner.
