It was the next day, Jason had sent Nick and two others to run the borders to make sure that none of Drake's wolves got into the territory.

"Hey mom?" I said as I walked into my parent's room.

"Yeah?" she asked from where she sat folding clothes on the bed.

"Do you think werewolves are the only mythical creatures out there?" I asked her as I sat down on the corner of the bed. She was folding clothes and putting them away in her room.

"I've never really thought of it, but it could be possible, but don't go looking for fairies or trolls in the woods. I don't think that's the other creatures." She said smiling.

"So, like the darker creatures, like vampires and witches?" I asked.

"Yeah, maybe, if there's werewolves, there might as well, be vampires." She said, looking at me.

"Hey, when you said, you wanted me to be 19 before I joined, why not just like 16?" I asked her.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but you are kind of hot headed. I say that out of love, 'k." she said.

I nodded.

"I know, have-..." I started, but before I could finish, Henry and Kate came in.

"Hey, Jason wants to have a meeting." Henry said as he glanced at me then to my mom.

"It's fine, just go." I said walking out of the room.

"No, you are a part of this pack, Clare." Kate said to me as she took my hand and led me downstairs.

"Are you sure that's wise? You don't know if Coal is working with Natalie or not, who we know for a fact, is the enemy... What if it's a trap?" I could hear the concern in my dad's voice as he spoke to Jason, who had stood up from the chair he was sitting in, I was perched on the arm of the chair.

"Coal was the first alpha that signed the contract. Plus, if he were working with Natalie, he wouldn't go near me or our territory." Jason said confidently.

"Jason, I think what Bryan is trying to say is, people can change, and you haven't seen Coal in years how do you..." before my mom could finish, Jason stopped her.

"Coal is like family; he was one of us before he left to go with his dad's pack." Jason said a bit harshly.

"I wasn't..." my mom tried to explain, but Jason scowled, and my mom just went silent.

"Coal is loyal to us; he had always been loyal to this pack." He said sternly.

"Jason, Rose has a point, we shouldn't be too hasty to invite another pack here, when we've got one already trying to start a war with us." Dad said, sounding like he was calling the shots, which, Jason just looked at my dad.

"Bryan, you made me alpha, I know and trust Coal, if I allow him to come, than that's that, alright?" Jason said a bit rudely.

"You'll risk all our lives on a fifty percent chance Coal will side with us, he hasn't been here for years and you want to let him just walk right into our lands?" Ethan said... he really just could not keep his mouth shut, could he?!

"Yes, because Coal is one of the most loyalist men, I know." Jason said, narrowing his eyes at Ethan.

"You maybe Alpha, but that's just stupid, I mean if I was-" Ethan started, I mentally was strangling the guy.

Jason stood up and looked at Ethan.

"You're not the Alpha, so don't try to act like you are, got it?" he barked sharply at the guy.

"Jason, he wasn't, we're all just hesitant about this, and we've got a right to be," I said calmly, Jason looked at me.

"Coal, won't betray us, I swear." He said relaxing a bit.

"Then, if that's your decision, we'll stand behind you, no matter what," I said looking at the pack.

"Nice speech, but sadly, you won't be able to go meet Coal," Ethan said randomly.

It went dead silent for a few minutes; guess people were waiting for me or Jason to speak.

"Hold on, why can't I come?" I asked once I got the pack's attention.

"Because you aren't a full werewolf." My mom said.

Before Jason could make a comment. I cut in.

"I know I'm not and I know I have to be a full werewolf, to actually be an alpha, but Coal and his pack doesn't know that." I explained to the pack.

"You want us to lie to one of our oldest allies?" my dad said.

"Yep." I said, nodding.

Jason was trying not to smile.

"Well, I guess it's up to Jason." Kate muttered.

"Whatever she says, do it." Jason sighed.

"Alright then, I guess that's the plan." My dad said, standing up. I could tell from the look on his face, he was curious about how I got Jason to submit.

That night, everyone was running around getting things ready. I just sat in the big, black leather office chair that normally, Jason sits in when he was doing stuff either for the pack or some weird alpha things.

"Why are you freaking out?" I asked him as he looked in drawers for something.

"Because if Coal has some new wolves, they need to meet me and you to know that we are the ruling alpha pair." He explained a bit tense.

That is when I started to spin in the chair... I am so adulty, NOT!

"So, like if a new pack was started, they'd have to get permission to make a pack?" I asked.

"Yep,"

"Can we be impeached?!" I asked curious.

"No, but if someone killed us then they and their mate, if they have one would be the ruling pair." He explained.

"Oh... but what happened if just one of us was killed?" I asked.

"Then if it was me, who died, you would be the ruling alpha female, but that's never happened." He said. I nodded.

"Wait... so, werewolf packs have always been patriarchal?" I asked a bit surprised.

"Yeah... I mean, our ranks are like a normal wolf pack's ranks, the alpha female... Luna, is equal to the Alpha, but the Alpha is the head of the pack, if he's smart, he listens to his Luna, of course." He explained smiling at the end. I smiled back, before my mind drifted down a new thought path.

"You're not going to make the pack wear suits and dresses, are you?" I asked.

"No... it's not that formal." He sighed as he kept looking.

"Hey... What was up with you earlier?" I asked quietly.

He stopped what he was doing and looked up at me.

"I have no true or any good excuses for that. I was thinking about defending Coal as a friend and not thinking of him as another potential threat, which I should've," he explained.

"Guess everyone has their moment like that, I mean, you want to protect your friends, so you speak before thinking, which makes sense, cause the pack doesn't seem to care anymore."

"That and, I'm the brand-new alpha, everyone expects a bit of a struggle with me and the new job and it's 'perks." He sighed.

I nodded, before continuing watching him search for whatever he was looking for.
