-Clare-
That evening.
I was in the office with Jason, I was reading, while he was planning.
"Immortality can't be found until sacrifice has left you," I muttered as I glanced over at Jason, who stood beside me as we looked at the map of the territory, which was just a map of the terrain, and such.
"Are you reading Shakespeare or something?" he asked smiling faintly at me, before glancing over at the book in my hands.
"Just something, that I thought of." I shrugged, before bookmarking the page and closing the book as I put it on the desk.
"One flaw to your poetic saying... we are immortal," he said leaning closer to me.
"There always is a flaw to everything... even you, Alpha." I said teasing him. He looked at me as if he were remembering my face, inch by inch, he leaned closer and put his right hand on the small of my back pulling me closer to him.
"That's how we know we are still human, Clare, by our flaws, not by our strengths, our weaknesses are there to remind us, we are not gods." He said quietly.
I glanced from his green, silver swirling eyes, to look at the map, as my face turned red.
"You couldn't have stayed here just because of me, you had to have some reason... cause no guy that looks like you, stays for a stupid teenage girl, like me." I muttered.
"For you, I would do anything." He said.
"Shot yourself in the foot?" I joked, he looked at me in the eye and grabbed me and set me on the desk.
"You have no idea what I would do to get you back from Drake, I would kill every one of his pack, not thinking twice about who they are and who cares about them, because all that would be on my mind is, how do I get you back by my side." He said.
"Trust me, after being taken into that camp and nearly dying, I don't plan on leaving this place, any time soon," I sighed.
When the office doors opened, I looked over to see David.
"You wanted to see me, Jason?" he asked, seemingly not caring about anything, but being called to talk to Jason.
I hopped off the desk and stood next to Jason, as David walked over and looked at the map.
"Drake's camp is here?... by the old lake road?" David said raising an eyebrow at the oddness of the rogue pack's camp.
"In a way it was a smart move, if any human used the road, we wouldn't be able attack them there since, we'd risk getting exposed to the outside world." Jason sighed running a hand through his hair.
"You ever think about drawing them out into the old field?" David asked pointing to the field that was closer to the campgrounds then to our houses.
"That did cross my mind, but wouldn't that be too close to the camp and the road?" Jason asked.
"Not really, if we can contain the fight to the field, especially if we are able to get a group behind their pack, we could keep them between the two groups and then surround them and finish this for once." He shrugged.
"Maybe you should've become alpha and not me, David... you're a freaking genius." Jason said to the older man.
"I would hate the job, besides, I'm better with stitching them up, not leading them." David said smiling faintly.
Once David left, Jason got back to work, and I... just went outside and started to walk.
When I got the old field, I could easily track where Drake's rogues were doing 'border runs', I knew that if I got too close, I'd end up right where I'd been a few nights ago, at Natalie's not-so-merciful-mercy.
I still knew that eventually, she would come for us, and by that time, I hoped we would be ready, not only for the fight, but for the loss of friends, this wouldn't be a bloodless battle, people were going to die, and it wouldn't just be Drake and that so-called alpha slut.
"You shouldn't be out here, so close to the border, little wolf." I knew that voice in seconds.
"Drake... maybe you should be the one who needs to be warned." I said coldly, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I know you, Clare... besides you're alone, which is surprising that Jason would let you even a foot out of the house without you guarded, I mean you are his little lapdog," he smirked.
"I'm not a lapdog to anyone." I growled.
"And you aren't the Omega, yet still not the Alpha's equal... what are you then? Besides the Alpha's pet?"
"You trying to start a fight?" I snapped.
"Oh, I already know one has already started, ever since I first stepped onto, you're pack's land, the fight has been going on, but it just got even more intense when Jason lost you... he was the brand-new alpha then... speaking of your possessive mate, how is Jason?" he asked smirking.
"Ready to rip you apart and burn you to the ground." I said trying my best at not attacking the rogue alpha then and there.
"You having fun with your new abilities?" he asked glancing at me up and down as if he was studying me.
"Drake... get out of here... now!" a voice said from behind me... uh oh...
I turned my head and saw a dark-haired guy with green eyes that seemed very much like Jason's, then it hit me.
"Matthew.... Thought you were dead." Drake said not pleased with seeing the eldest Green sibling.
"No, just was taking a vacation from the whole packs and alphas thing." He said, calmly.
"For nearly fourteen years?" Drake said raising an eyebrow.
"Needed a longer time to see the world."
"Or maybe you thought your brother would've forgotten about what you'd done to him, by now." Drake shrugged.
"My baby brother needs to not hold onto grudges so long," Matthew said calmly, I was honestly so confused by how these two just casually talked, when Drake was the one trying to kill me and Matthew's brother.
Suddenly, Drake looked at me.
"I see, you aren't alone anymore, I best be off, before both of our... partners' find us." He said coolly, as if he was not trying to kill me.
I watched him till he was not visible anymore, before turning to look at Matthew, who smiled at me.
"You must be Clare, I'm Matthew, which you already heard..." he said, then it was as if he just flipped a switch and I was all ears, also the fault of my over curiosity, too.
He told me about how he found out about Jason becoming the alpha, so he wanted to see how his brother was doing, which was then how he learned of Drake and Natalie wanting Jason and I dead.
"So, you're here to help us?" I said.
"Yes, I care for family, I don't want anyone hurting Jason... or Meagan, of course." He said, I nodded.
"Do you have any ideas on how we could beat them?" I asked, he looked at me and nodded.
"Let us just call it a deal, I help you, and you don't tell Jason about me coming back.... I want it to be a... well, a surprise," he said smiling, I hesitated, before nodding.
"I will let you know when I have all my information ready for you," he smiled.
Right then, my phone started to buzz, I looked down at it, to see it was just some random, wrong number, but when I looked back up, Matthew was gone.
"What... what just happened?" I muttered to myself, before shaking my head and then quickly going back to the house.
