“Okay. Explain,” the Doctor demanded after they finished dropping off the people where they came from, the unnamed alien once again shrunk behind Ella as the Doctor’s piercing gaze bore into him.

“This is Ryuka,” Ella turned toward him, “hey what did you say your people were called again?” He shuffled his feet, suddenly wondering if following the human was a good idea, but it wasn’t like he had a choice when she grabbed him and dragged him with her.

“Vreig, as long as we’re together we are a collective,” he quietly supplied and Ella wasn’t quite sure what he meant by that. Did they share thoughts, did they meld together and form a super being, he must have seen the questions in her eyes because he was talking again. “A long time ago we were one and after a few million years we learned to separate but when we’re near each other we can tap into the residual hive mind. Now that I’m here there’s nothing,” the Doctor was sure he was the only one who could hear the tightness in his voice. Which the Time Lord understood since he hears the silence as well, that empty lonely void in your head when there used to be so much mental traffic and noise.

“Anyway, they have an ability to paralyze people and make them more susceptible to suggestion which is why Taludav spared them. Don’t you see, Doc? They didn’t want to do this, it was all her, she wanted to plant sleeper agents all over the planet for her convoluted plan to get back at us.” Ella approached the Doctor and cupped his cheek so he could see the seriousness in her eyes, “he told me she’s been amassing power …” the look Ella gave the Doctor stopped his bubbling questions. “She can move through time now,” the Doctor balked at that; Rose sucked in a breath.

“How,” the Doctor quietly seethed as his burning expression seared into Ryuka.

“She’s evolving, she has no physical form and eventually she realized the walls between dimensions and time no longer mattered to her,” he provided.

“He also said she’s been making alliances,” Ella quickly got out eager to get to the point already, “the first one was with the Daleks.” Which effectively sucked the air out of the room, why do they always survive while I lose everything, the Doctor thought about his family and his friends who were forever gone.

“Right, she helped the Dalek masters build an army.”

“Why would they do that,” which was a fair question and something that Ella wanted to know too. With what she already gathered about the Daleks is that they had a massive superiority complex and just why they would ally themselves with someone as unhinged as Taludav was beyond her.

“She supplied organic material for their new Daleks, since most of them were killed during the Time War,” Ryuka watched as the people looking at him paled in color with what he just said. “The war raged for centuries, not everyone in the universe was affected but those of us who were? We were devastated, we lost our Leader and there she was making her promises of retribution to the ones who caused all the strife and chaos on my planet.”

“I don’t understand, the Daleks fought in that conflict too.”

“They did, but we didn’t see any of that. She manipulated the information we received for years, to the point she had us convinced the one who killed our old Leader was …” he made a gesture towards Ella, “the Bad Wolf.” Something was tugging in the Doctor’s memory, but he couldn’t focus on it right now with all the new things he just learned and all the implications it brought. Different paths to take whirled through his head at lightning speed as he saw the most likely outcomes of each possible timeline. Finally, he settled on the one with the least amount of casualties and he vowed to make sure that was the one that triumphed in the end, he didn’t want to bear witness to the future of darkness that Taludav sought.
