Kyuma starts to describe the game they would be playing. "The game we'll be playing is Osmosis." Akira snorted causing everyone to look at her, she looked down giggling. "Sorry, science kid humor." Kyuma shook his head before returning to his speech.
"Now, the rules are simple. The game lasts two hours. Both teams try to collect points. The team with the highest total at the end of the game wins. Each team begins with 10,000 points." Akira was already getting a migraine.
"Players divide these points amongst themselves before the game begins. The minimum amount is 100 points. You're free to divide them up any way you want. Talk it over as a team and decide. Points distribution is a key element of strategy in this game." "How does one earn points? There are three ways you can do so in this game. Battle, items, and base."
"Hold on!" Arisu interrupted Kyuma, causing him to sigh. "Yeah, you got a question?" "How do we remember all this?" Akira nodded in agreement. "Right. I guess it's easier once you do it, huh? A demonstration. You've got random points for now. Your bracelet shows your individual points. Let's try a battle."
"A battle's outcome depends entirely on your current points. To initiate one, all you need to do is touch your opponent." As a demonstration he grabbed Arisus wrist. "Hey!" Everyone looked at Arisu's bracelet and saw the points change over. "Whoever has more points wins. The winner steals 500 points from the loser.
"Before we go on, as you can see we have six people on each team, however this game only needs five people per team." Kuina made eye contact with Akira, looking worried. "So, who do you want to not play?" Silence filled the arena. "Guys come here." Arisu motioned for everyone to gather near. "I volunteer." Tatta spoke quickly, hoping to not have to play the game.
"We need you Tatta, Akira's hurt remember?" "Huh?" Akira looked up at Arisu quickly. "I'm not that hurt!" "If you say so." Akira nodded. "Hey! If she's hurt we can't risk her dragging us down." "Jee thanks." Akira whacked Niragi's shoulder before turning back to the group. "Okay, I'll sit out. But i'll be cheering for you." Everyone nodded and Kuina patted her on the back. Akira walked towards Kyuma, who nodded at her.
"Go follow Mako, we'll start the game soon." She smiled quickly and walked over to the other man. "Hello, I'm Akira." "Mako." The two smiled before he began to walk away, towards the middle of the arena. "Where are we heading?" Mako pointed upwards at the scoreboard. "You aren't afraid of heights, are you?" "Haven't really had the chance to check." "First time for everything!" Mako chuckled. The two reached the base of the large scoreboard, where a rusty ladder waited for them.
"Uh, are you sure that's safe to climb up?" The man didn't answer and proceeded to climb the ladder. Akira sighed before following closely behind him. "Finally." Akira huffed as she reached the top. "Wow! You can see everything from here!" She looked around, and saw her friends below her. "The game will start soon. Do you think they'll win?" "Absolutely!"
He chuckled at her enthusiasm before sitting, dangling his legs over the side of the tower. Akira followed him, sitting and watching the small crowd of people below them. "Are Arisu and Usagi holding hands?" She sniggered, leaning forward, trying to see closer. "f teammates hold hands, they're able to battle using their combined points, allowing them to beat an opponent they couldn't defeat on their own." Mako spoke quickly, having rehearsed the rules already.
"So, are the scores of the people said outload or something. So you can know how much they have, or something?" She had to admit it was quite confusing. "No, you don't know the opponents score until you battle." "Kinda like Stratego?" Mako gave her a quick glance, turning back to the small people below them. "Right, sorry. Not like stratego at all." (It's exactly like Stratego.)
"So what's with the shipping containers of all things? You couldn't make a big maze of hedges or walls?" "We hid items in 6 shipping containers, that give extra points to the player." "Huh, convenient." The two sat in silence for a moment before a beep sounded from the large screen behind them. Looking up she saw an image of the maze, with two pole looking things opposite each other. "Why's Kyuma showing that?" "He's explaining the rules of the bases. Each base is worth 10,000 points. If u touch the other teams base, you basically win."
"But there's a catch." "If the goalie is touching the base, they have infinite points." "Ohh, so going for the base is a bad idea." Mako nods silently. The board shows a cartoon character touching the pole and getting an infinite amount of points. "Cute. A+ for presentation." "Thanks, I made it." "Really!"
She clapped him on the back, grinning. "So you can make cool presentations and was in a band. What instrument did you play, by the way?" "I wasn't in the band, as in I was never on stage." "Huh? Why not?" She asked confused. He shrugged, "I did the lighting, booked tours and stuff." "Is that why your up here, because you never played in the band?" "Kyuma says its better if I'm up here, for the good of the team." She scoffed, "That's a tad rude." "He's not wrong. They didn't really need me then, and they don't need me now."
She watches as Mako sighs, leaning back against the screen. As if sensing the depressed atmosphere, the character on the screen died as a laser shot through his head. "What that's about?" "If a person's score goes below zero, they die." She nodded, sending a silent prayer for her friends.
Akira watched as Arisu walked closer to the King of Clubs. The two men appeared to be talking heatedly, before the naked Kyuma turned and walked away, followed by his bandmates. "Now they need to decide how to split the points, right?" Mako nods, looking in the opposite direction as his friends walk together, out of sight.
"C'mon, Arisu. Splitting them evenly would be stupid, but giving them out randomly would be bad as well." She huffs, leaning back, "Wow, I am glad that I don't have to deal with that."
She looks as they gather in a circle, clearly discussing their tactic. Finally they split apart, Usagi stretching, Niragi leaning against the base and Tatta fiddling with his cap. Loud music startled her, causing her to jump forward. And nearly off the platform. "Shit!" She clutched her chest, calming her heart rate. Looking around she saw that Kyuma stood on top of a storage container, in a T-pose. He appeared to be enjoying the serenity of the death game.
"What a crackhead."
