The next day, Danny took his hungover guests and girlfriend to breakfast. He purchased the Sunday paper for each of them and told them to turn to the third page. Autumn expected to see the article about her attack, but it was an article about the Fall River Pumpkin Farm and there were photos of her with the rabbits and few of her and Kim in the pumpkin patch. Both of the women were rather elated over the article having their photos in the paper. Danny had to pull a few strings to get the article put in the paper after the deadline, but it was well worth it to see Autumn smile because of it. He had even submitted the photo he had taken of her the day he discussed the attack. Danny wanted everyone to see the face of a survivor. Definitely out of character for him, but it added to his story telling.
After a delightful breakfast, the couples went their separate ways. Once at home, Danny and Autumn got into the shower where they ended up having sex. They then napped for a bit before waking up and having sex again. The rest of day was spent lazing around with the kitten. Danny wanted to spend as much time with Autumn as he possibly could before going back to work. He was going to miss all this free time with her, but it definitely couldn't last forever.
-Monday-
Danny quietly got up out of bed and began getting ready for work. Before he left, he kissed Autumn on the cheek and gave Casper a gentle scratch on the back. He hated so badly to leave his little rabbit, but he was sure he'd get back into the flow. It would be rather depressing not having her at work though. Danny's heart felt quite heavy over that, but at least he had her all to himself.
When Danny walked through the doors of the Fall River Gazette, he was greeted by Charlotte who promptly got up from her desk.
"It's so good to see you, Jed!" she chimed reaching out for a hug.
Danny smiled and opened his arms to the plump redhead and hugged her. "It's good to see you, too, Charlotte."
"I've missed seeing that smiling face every morning, but I was so glad you took time off to take care of Autumn," she said releasing him from the hug. "That was very sweet of you. How is she doing? I wanted to reach out to her, but I didn't want to bother her."
"Thank you. I was glad that I could take care of Autumn, she means a whole lot to me," Danny confessed. "And she's doing better, mentally and physically."
Charlotte softly clapped her hands together. "I'm so glad she's doing better! I'm sure it's been difficult for her. I can't even begin to imagine..."
"Oh, it's definitely been a struggle for her, but she's starting to bounce back." Danny started toward his desk and she followed.
"Good. I miss her being here. She didn't talk very much, but she's a sweet girl. Do you know when she's
coming back?" Charlotte asked.Danny dropped his messenger bag into his chair. "About that... Autumn won't be coming back."
"What?! Why?!"
"Harold fired her Friday and hired that new girl," Danny told.
Charlotte brought her hand up to her mouth. "Oh goodness... Poor Autumn... Why would Harold do such a thing?" she questioned.
Danny shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he thinks Victoria is a better writer."
The redhead grimaced. "I don't care if she wrote the book of Psalms. That girl's attitude is rotten and it doesn't belong in our building."
"I agree, Char," he said patting the older woman on the back. "I met her Friday evening and I wasn't a fan. Unfortunately, Harold has hired her to write about the Ghost Face murders with me. So I have no choice but to put up with her."
