“What about this one?” I pointed to a blush-colored two-seater sofa.
Taehyung, Jin, and I were out shopping for furniture for the office they had converted to my own little sweatshop. They had finished painting and we were finally able to move things into it. I had told them the only way they could convince me to use it was if I bought everything I would need for it. Most of them agreed, albeit reluctantly. Apart from the worktable, it was empty, and I knew I needed a few more essentials to make it functional. Somehow Tae had talked me into putting more furniture in it after I had picked several shelves, so the three of us were browsing their selection of sofas.
“Too small. Needs to be bigger.”
“Bigger?”
He nodded resolutely. “Big enough so the two of us can cuddle on it when I come to visit.”
I snorted a little embarrassingly, Jin shaking his head on the other side of Taehyung, but he had a smile on his face. Taehyung on the other hand, was absolutely serious.
“Tae, it’s going in the work room. Not exactly the place to be cuddling.”
The beginnings of a pout formed on his lips. I could tell he was thinking of several reasons I should change my mind.
“He’s right.” Jin interrupted. “Maybe, not for cuddling, but if one of us wanted to help you or spend some time with you while you’re working. Something big enough for two or three of us would be best.”
Taehyung nodded eagerly. I didn’t think it was in agreeance to Jin’s reasoning as much as it being him taking his side on the matter. I was almost positive he didn’t care.
“Okay. Something a little bigger then.” I caved.
We found a couch, an armchair, and an office chair to put with the worktable before we were all satisfied. Some of it we could fit into the car, but most of it I paid to be delivered.
“Are you staying again tonight?” Jin asked on our way to the car.
“I probably shouldn’t. I was hoping to get to the shop early tomorrow. I’m supposed to make Jimin’s first delivery this week and I have a few more blankets to finish before then.”
“But you were supposed to stay with me again.”
“Tae, I stayed with you last night.”
“And it wasn’t enough.”
I unlocked the doors and opened the trunk to let Jin and Tae start loading what we could bring with us. It was relatively busy for a Sunday. A lot of people came and went, trying to finish whatever they needed to before the work week started again. I heard Jin telling Taehyung something, but I wasn’t paying attention as a flash caught my eye.
Across the lot, a black car had parked in one of the parallel spaces next to the street. The sun was reflecting off the mirrors as someone got in and closed the doors. I probably wouldn’t have even thought twice about it except the car looked familiar. I wracked my brain trying to remember where I had seen it before, but I couldn’t remember.
“Y/N?”
I looked to Tae to already see him staring at me.
“You okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. I was just thinking about something.”
Jin didn’t look like he believed me, even turning around to see if he could figure out what I was looking at.
“Well, I was saying you could stay with me again tonight and I could drive you to work in the morning.”
“Tae, you never wake up as early as I usually do.”
“But I can.”
I lifted an eyebrow. “But you won’t.”
He lifted a hand, painting a cross on his chest over his heart.
“I swear I will.”
I was skeptical, but who was I kidding? I would’ve taken any excuse to stay with them again. These days, I was finding it harder to stay away. Even more so when they were so accommodating. Honeymoon phase is what Kat would say. She and Jackson went through the same thing although I’m not real sure they ever came out of it either. A smile slipped through as I handed the last of the bags to Tae to put in the trunk.
“You better keep that promise.”
He clapped triumphantly as my eyes wandered back across the lot. The car was no longer there, and my thoughts were no closer to remembering why I could’ve swore I recognized it.
Jin decided to cook a light dinner since no one was too hungry and everyone opted to start putting furniture together instead. Or well, Tae and Jungkook was trying to put it together while Jimin just read the instructions aloud and Hoseok was doing his best to keep Namjoon away from all of it, so he didn’t break anything. Yoongi was either helping Jin or napping. I wasn’t too sure which.
“Are you going to read the instructions, or just sit there?” Tae asked, getting frustrated with the pile of screws and wooden shelves surrounding him.
“Now you want to listen? I’ve been trying to tell you which board goes where for the last ten minutes and you’ve been ignoring me.” The pitch of Jimin’s voice rose with each word, betraying his annoyance with the man in return.
I sat between the three of them, none of them letting me help apart from handing them a screw or board. I turned to look at Jungkook, who actively ignored the bickering duo and focused on his own project. Whereas Tae hadn’t even finished the frame, Kookie only had a couple of boards left until his was done. Leaving the two to their own devices, I held up the last couple of pieces for Jungkook.
“Thanks.” He smiled gratefully.
“Is there anything you can’t do? Besides crocheting of course.” I teased him at the last bit which earned me a chuckle.
“What can I say? I’m just good with my hands.”
“Duly noted.” He took the last board from me. “Better than those two. I don’t think they’ve gotten anything done for the past five minutes. You may end up having to put together another one.”
I watched as Jimin flopped back on the floor, laying spread eagle as he tuned out Taehyung who complained about his lackluster skills at giving instructions.
“Do I get something in return for the extra work?”
I met his eyes, the teasing glint in his big, beautiful orbs couldn’t be missed. He bit his bottom lip playfully, my gaze dropping to the action like I was drawn to the motion. I stepped a little closer to him, tilting my face up to his with a smirk of my own.
“Come find me before bed and you’ll find out.”
“Deal.” He murmured.
