The Project

November was pretty good. I made a few more friends and got closer to the kids from the lunch group. In Fanfiction Writing, I hung out with Janet and Fiona and occasionally a few other kids. We'd talk about girl stuff which, by the way, is a lot easier to talk about without Delphine.

Then one day in FW, we had our first project. Mrs. Golde pulled up a table on the smartboard and we all crowded around it to see our partners.

"Once you know who your partner is, I want you to sit together at a desk so I can explain the project," Mrs. Golde said as we looked at the long list of names.

Antonio Rivera and Fiona Albert

Maya Platten and Brandon Carter

Kyle Mathias and Jeveskia Peterson

Xavier Lynx and Janet Lee

"Awesome!" Janet said, high-fiving Xavier as soon as she saw the pairing. Brandon groaned.

"You guys are so lucky," he said. "Maya Platten is so annoying, she thinks she's better than everyone else."

I continued to scan the list until I saw my name.

Y/N L/N and Lucas Crystalos

Lucas had apparently seen the names too. He had made his way over to me.

"I guess we're partners now," he said.

"Guess we are," I replied.

We stood there awkwardly for a few seconds until he said, "So... should we sit down now?"

"Let's do that," I agreed.

We made out way back to my desk, and he brought his own chair from the front and sat next to me. I played the Dino game again until Mrs. Golde stood up.

"Now that everyone's partnered up," she said, "here's the project.

"As you may know, Children's Week is next week. In this week, every class will be dedicated to your OTP's children. In Digital Design, for example, you're going to make them look the way you'd imagine them. In Shipping you might make a poster or something. In my class we're going to be writing fanfiction, as we all know. But I've stalled long enough.

"This project will describe the parents' point of view of raising and protecting their children. This is why I paired you up boy-girl. To make it easy. Today you'll just plan out your project. I don't want to see anyone writing or hear any keyboards typing. You many begin."

I turned to Lucas. "So, what's your OTP?"

"Percabeth, duh," he said.

"Me too," I smiled. "How are we going to write that?"

"Well, we did a lot of perspective writing, so this shouldn't be too hard," he said. "I think we should describe a nighttime monster attack or something."

"That would be cool," I agreed. "How many kids would they have, and would they share a room?"

"I think four kids," Lucas said. "Two of them are twins. Three girls and one boy. The twins are a boy and a girl, and they're the middle. The twins share a room, but the rest don't. I think all the kids except the eldest daughter should be named after their dead friends." (A/N: Fun fact: I based this off of what I think Percabeth's kids would be like :))

This very detailed description and rush of words from seemingly quiet boy Lucas Crystalos took me by surprise, but I liked it.

"I like that," I said. "Maybe the attack could be on the youngest, and that's when the other kids show their powers?"

"Sounds good," he said. "Y/N, it looks like you and I are gonna get along just fine."

"Looks like it," I said with a smile.

-Time Skip because I want one-

"So, how's Lucas?" Fiona asked me as we left the classroom.

"He's so fun," I said. "He has really smart ideas, and generally good to work with."

"Sounds better than Antonio," Fiona said. "I know we're friends, but he still barely talks, and I basically brainstormed by myself the whole time."

"Don't worry," I said. "It'll be fine. You're a harder worker than Delphine and I put together."

"Which isn't saying much, seeing as Delphine isn't exactly a hard worker," Fiona said with a small smirk.

"Can't argue with that, but you'll still be okay," I replied.

-Another Time Skip because I want to get to the good part-

Over the next week, me and Lucas worked hard on the project. We typed until our fingers hurt, revised and corrected each other, and every day we came up with a new sarcastic line for Percy or character trait for one of the kids, and we'd have to change things all over again.

I stopped going to lunches during Children's Week. Instead I worked on the project. We weren't allowed any class time to do it, so we always had to call after school and work on it. Now we were taking out of our break times.

In Digital Design, we learned how to change eye color, hair color, and even design our own clothes and hairstyles. In Character Life we designed houses and came up with schedules and jobs for our OTPs. In Shipping we came up with the characters we used for all the other classes. I ended up using the characters Lucas and I had come up with.

On Presentation Day, we were more than ready. We read aloud the story we'd been working on tirelessly for the past two weeks.

Being a demigod is exhausting enough. Raising kids is harder, Lucas said as Percy. I didn't know this was what I was getting myself into when I proposed to Annabeth.

I was trying to get some sleep when I heard a cry from my youngest daughter Zoë's room. Thinking she was just getting nightmares about flying monkeys again, I got up out of bed and went to her room to calm her down.

Instead, I saw a dracanaë holding my three-year-old hostage. My wife Annabeth came running into the room and we tried to fight the monster off, but we couldn't with Zoë being held hostage. That was when my other kids, Samantha and twins Luke and Silena, entered the room.

Lucas paused here, then he carefully handed me his laptop so I could read my bit.

It was bad enough Percy and I were fighting for our daughter back. It was worse with my other kids here.

But suddenly, Samantha raised her hands. She didn't seem to know what was happening. Then water shot out of her palms.

"What's going on?" Luke shouted, and I had no explanation other than: Sammy's got her powers.

Then Luke and Silena joined hands. They started looking around as if calculating invisibly, then Silena said, "Mom, if you can cut her hands off, she'll release Zoë."

Then Luke said, "Dad, control Sam's water so it shoots the monster out the window."

We did as they said, and in a minute Zoë was back in my arms.

"How did you–" I began.

"We never told you," Percy interrupted.

"We always knew, just never said anything," Samantha said.

I sighed. "Kids. To the living room. We need to tell you a story."

There was momentary silence, then applause.

"Well, that was truly extraordinary, Y/N and Lucas! Thank you for that. You can sit down," Mrs. Golde said.

And we did. Lucas smiled at me from the front row and I beamed back at him.

-Time Skip-

The next day, Mrs. Golde congratulated me again on my project with Lucas.

Then, in homeroom, she said something shocking.

"Fangirls and Boys, we have an exchange student from the London branch joining our class today."
