Thinking

"Guys, guys, I want to take a moment to think," Mrs. Golde said as we packed up our things after homeroom. People stopped getting ready to leave and listened.

"So, in Fangirl School, students might find themselves leaving at 18 to go to a real college. It's mandatory to leave at 18 in fandoms like Harry Potter, but in the Percy Jackson fandom you can actually stay and continue studying here until 25, finishing the Trials of Apollo years. Of course, you don't have to," she added hastily as she got some questioning looks from the type who didn't want to do school for that long, including Delphine. "But you can. Just consider it when you go home tonight, okay? You can go now."

We all picked up our things and left to go to Pre-OC class. (I know that wasn't in the Lessons chapter, but what exactly, may I ask, did you think we did after recess?) Pre-OC was like a started for the actual OC class, which we'd start taking in the Sea of Monsters year, that basically taught us how to create an OC, or Own Character, properly. By the end of the year we should have come up with at least one, and a few of mine were coming along pretty smoothly.

All I wanted was to have regular classes then have lunch, because I had slept way too late for my own good last night, but of course with Fiona, you can't have regular classes.

"Are you staying till you're 25?" she questioned as we pushed our way around the halls. I waved to Lucas then turned to her to answer.

"I don't think so, I think I'll go to college. But I'm not sure."

"I don't think I'm staying, either," she remarked. "I mean, Fangirl School is great, but I'm wasting most of my regular school years here. But I don't want to be a dropout, even if it's just from Fangirl School, so I'll only make it to the Mark of Athena, and I won't go on to the House of Hades."

"Which is a little sad, considering that it's just about the longest book in the series and probably the most suspenseful," I agreed, "but yeah, I think I'll do the same."

We reached the class.

"Okay, guys, today I'm exhausted, so pull out your laptops and try to use the Digital Design app the school made for you to get an idea of what your OC looks like."

"But Mrs. Oakes, we haven't learned how to fully design a character from scratch yet," Lucinda Walker said. (If you remember her, which I didn't and I had to look back to find a random character, she sits next to you in Digital Design.)

"Okay, just do whatever you want then, just leave me alone," Mrs. Oakes lay her head on the desk, and the class just went insane from there.

Delphine came up to where Fiona and I were sitting. I noticed that she had done something in her long, curly hair, which she usually just left down.

(The girl in the picture is not me)

"Hey, Delphine! I like your hair," I smiled.

"Thanks," she grinned back.

"Is there a particular reason?" Fiona asked.

"What do you mean?" Delphine asked.

"I mean, is there a reason why you styled it like that?"

"No," Delphine said, although her grin faded. I thought it was a little sus, but I let the matter go.

-Time Skip because we all forgot this, even me, had to reread the book to remember-

We got to lunch, and Lucas sat with us again, between me and Delphine. Delphine seemed really happy at lunch, and it was only when she had engaged in a conversation with Lucas about something I didn't really pay attention to that it hit me, what Delphine had said on Halloween so long ago;

I've got eyes on that kid, Lucas.

And she'd called him cute. I felt like I was going to puke.

Fiona, being my bestie and the good friend she is, noticed my stress. She took me to the girls' bathroom that was in the cafeteria, made sure no one was around, and asked me what was wrong.

"Delphine likes Lucas," I said.

"Why's that a problem?" Fiona asked, letting out a relieved breath then laughing. "Good God, Y/N, you had me really worried."

"It's a problem because what if he finds out? He'll think we only agreed for him to sit with us because Delphine likes him!"

"You're overreacting," Fiona said, trying to calm me down.

"Am I?" I said. "Delphine's not exactly good at keeping secrets. Remember Janet?"

She didn't have anything to say to this. "Look, I can't counter that, but so what if he finds out? Delphine's heart will be broken, but otherwise no harm done. Just tell him you didn't even know she liked him. You just remembered now, right?"

I nodded.

"Exactly. So stop stressing, okay?" she summed up.

I nodded again, and she smiled and led me back to the table.

"Why is it always the smart ones that make you feel better, and yet I'm smart and can't make myself feel better?" I asked Fiona jokingly as we made our way back.

"You make me feel better," she said.

"Do I?" I asked, and she nodded.

We were back at the table by then. Lucas asked where we'd been, and I just said, "Bathroom."

Delphine gave me a funny look at that. It was common knowledge that in the girls' bathroom, secrets and confidential things were discussed. But I shook it off and acted like we were actually just using the bathroom, and that seemed to convince both Delphine and Lucas.

Phew.
