"So let me get this straight," Eloise said, furrowing her brow. I adjusted the screen of my laptop so I could see her better. "Janet's mad at you because you told Fiona that Janet wanted to kick Delphine out of our friend group, and now neither Janet nor Delphine are talking to you or Fiona?"
"That's about it," I said.
"But you still sit with us at lunch and recess," she remarked.
"Yeah, and I pretend not to notice Janet giving me dirty looks."
It had been a week since Fiona talked to Delphine. Giovanni, Jeveskia, and Brandon seemed to have no idea what happened, but one look at Xavier and Antonio and I could tell Janet had told them everything, maybe even exaggerated a little. Delphine was ghosting me and Fiona, which was just fine by Fiona but not so much by me. I could tell that Janet's anger at me and Fiona was much greater than her anger at Delphine, for she had set aside any negative feelings towards Delphine and was now pretty much besties with her.
"Y/N, I don't think you should stay quiet any longer," Eloise said. "Janet's already got Antonio angry at you. Xavier looks like he's wondering whether Janet's anger is directed at the right place, whether she should have told you at all. He's not exactly a great actor."
"Elsie, you just said it. Antonio's already mad at me. I don't want to ruin Xavier's friendship with Janet in case he's on my side. Brandon will probably take Fiona's side in anything, and I think Giovanni and Jeveskia will agree that I'm right and there's nothing for Janet to be angry about, and the friend group will fall apart. I don't want that."
"I'm just trying to help you, Y/N. Believe me, I've faced drama beyond belief back in London," she said.
There was a shout in the background. Eloise looked back and shouted, "One more minute, Mum!"
She turned back to me. "You'll do the right thing, Y/N. I know you will. And keep me posted, even when I'm back in London. If Janet does anything bad, I've got some–ah–information on her I think would be very interesting to everyone in the year. Anyways, I've got to go to bed now, Mum's shouting at me. Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight, Elsie."
I shut off the laptop. It was 10 PM. I didn't normally go to sleep at 10, but I was so stressed and my mind was so full of random things and events. I turned the lights off and, since I was already in my pajamas, slipped under the covers and closed my eyes.
After what felt like hours, I finally fell asleep.
