A moment later, a Eunuch came and announced that the Emperor, Xuanren was outside her palace. Fengjiu went outside and saw that he had a carriage behind him.

He took her hand and stated, "We have to get to the Royal Tomb. I'll tell you everything on the way."

Xuanren helped her inside the carriage, on the way, he explained what happened. Last night, he was woken by his Chief Eunuch who told him that someone tried to steal the Jade Stone. They had gotten past 3 of the 4 traps on the way to the Stone. He thought to himself, 'It was too close for comfort.'

When they got back inside the Royal Tomb, they started working on the trap. Fengjiu saw that he kept looking at her with a hungry look on his face. 'It's good that I'm leaving...I would not be able to resist this long.'

She cleared her throat. "Your Majesty has an extraordinary bearing, and thousands of military strategies in mind for you to design a complicated and huge trap mechanism like this."

He slightly smiled in response as he worked on his piece of wood. "Too bad I am unable to construct the critical part, no matter what I do. I was about to give up." Then Xuanren looked up at her lovingly. "Good thing I met you. In terms of endowed talent in trap mechanism creation, based on your dagger design, you are superior to me."

Fengjiu laughed. "That dagger design wasn't purely mine. I helped add to it." Then she turned to gaze up at him with pride. "But Your Majesty relied on your own ability to design all these traps."

"Of course. Since I was little, I have loved researching these things." Xuanren replied.

She remembered how tragic his story was with his parents. How his own father couldn't bare to look at him, because of the mother's death. It was hard for Xuanren's father to live without his wife. Feeling deep sympathy for Xuanren, she couldn't help saying, "All princes should be studying state governance since they were little, but you learned other things as well. For example, playing the zither, tea drinking and studying trap mechanisms." She reached over to touch his hand. "It is because of your Mother's death...I'm guessing you were neglected."

He looked at her shocked and let out a deep breath. "Yes."

"You didn't deserve to be ignored," Fengjiu told him.

He kept looking at her for a long moment. "For a while...I didn't understand. As a child Royal Father rarely visited me. I thought he was just busy with state affairs. But as I got older I noticed that it was not like that." Xuanren let out another deep breath and continued, "He must have missed my mother so much, that he was afraid of remembering the pain when he would see me."

Fengjiu kept stroking his hand. "I'm sorry that you had to experience that."

"Actually, when I was little, I really hated my royal father," Xuanren admitted, then he looked over at her. "But lately, I can understand him." He sighed. "Before I met you, it was hard for me understand the love my father had for my mother. I had wondered...how can a person be so in love with another person?" He stepped closer to her. "After meeting you, I finally understand."

She felt her heart pound in her chest. Fengjiu wanted to tell him that she loved him too, but she couldn't. Xuanren had to die with doubt and sadness in his heart. Dong Hua already wouldn't get out of this trial with 100% of his cultivation, because his mortal self dies without her, but she knew he would have a significant amount back. With a heavy heart she smiled at him and started to finish the mechanism.

Xuanren was saddened that she didn't say that she loved him back. 'I have to give her time. Xiao Jiu is going through a lot right now.' He tried to take his mind off of the growing doubt in his head. "Can I ask questions about...about what happened when you healed me?"
