February, 2019

"Why are there so many birthdays in February? It's such a boring month," August complained.

Mallory and Inez looked at their sister blankly, "We all preferred it before you could talk," Inez murmured.

"So did Dad," August smirked.

Mallory grinned and high-fived her, making Inez's face drop, "I'm sorry, but it was kind of funny."

"The betrayal I am feeling right now," Inez scoffed, "Suddenly Betty is my favourite sister."

"What about me?" Betty spoke from the other side of the room where she was blowing up balloons.

"Nothing!" August waved off, "Inez was just waffling. As always."

"Wanker," Inez flicked August before sighing, "Why are we doing this? He's two, he's not gonna remember this."

"He's your son, you tell us," August mumbled.

"Nathan," Mallory said softly and knowingly, making the other two hum.

Taylor then rushed in with a cake in her hands and a pleased grin, "I got it!"

Mallory walked over and took the cake, kissing her girlfriend's cheek in thanks, before bringing it to the kitchen. The house had been done up. There were banners on the walls and bunting hanging, balloons that had been filled with either air or helium, and a mix of adult and child-friendly snacks were on the table.

Taylor (the baby) was asleep with absolutely no idea of what today was. And Nathaniel was asleep also because he was knackered.

August suddenly let out a loud sigh, "I want a trophy husband. Where did you find Nathan?"

"He snuck into my sociology class and kept on throwing paper balls at my head," Inez murmured, "And now we're married. You'd be luckier if you found someone that doesn't express their feelings through bullying."

"Oh!" Betty perked you, "Like that girl from SoundCloud?" She asked, not noticing August's blush, "She was nice. Not exactly a guy, but I'm sure she'd be happy to be your trophy wife."

"Bets, I have a boyfriend. She's just a friend," August said.

"You have a boyfriend?"

"Yeah. He was at Christmas. And New Year."

Betty thought back before widening her eyes, "That sketchy-looking guy with the cheekbones? Jesus, August. I thought you were a lesbian."

"This is bisexual erasure. You guys aren't very woke," August joked, "Do you want me to lend you this book I have? There's a really good quote from it... Mallory, what is it?"

"'I'm bisexual. Don't ignore half of me so you can fit me into a box,'" Mallory murmured, "Speaking of, Taylor, you never gave it back."

The blonde shrugged nonchalantly as if claiming it. Mallory frowned but accepted that she'd only get it back if she broke into Taylor's TriBeCa and took it.

When Taylor woke up, he was brought downstairs by his father, smiling confusedly at all the attention he was getting, before making grabby hands at Mallory. The brunette shook her head and the boy frowned, but stood on his feet nonetheless, clinging onto her trouser leg.

The cake came out and Taylor giggled loudly and everyone sang before looking at his parents innocently, "I bow?"

"Yeah," Inez grinned.
