"Do you wanna talk about it?" Mallory asked as she stroked her girlfriend's hair comfortingly.
Taylor just shook her head against Mallory's stomach, sniffling softly.
The brunette nodded, "Okay. Do you want to talk about something else?" Taylor nodded that time and Mallory hummed, "Like what?"
"Where we go after we get married," Taylor whispered, pulling away to look Mallory in the eye. "We both want kids, but..." She gestured between the two of them, "We can't exactly reproduce like straight couples can."
Mallory bit her lip in acknowledgement and looked off to the side.
"I just... When you said you wouldn't carry our child, were you being serious?" Taylor asked, willing Mallory to look at her.
The brunette shook her head, "I was joking, but if you want to carry them, that's fine, Tay."
The blonde choked on her next words, fiddling with her ring as she fought to get them out. Mallory watched her curiously, rubbing her thigh encouragingly.
"Mallory," Taylor said softly, her eyes filled with a mix of anticipation and trepidation, "There's something important I need to tell you."
Mallory, sensing the seriousness in Taylor's voice, gave her her full attention, her gaze filled with curiosity and concern. "You know you can talk to me about anything. What's on your mind?"
Taking a deep breath, Taylor braced themselves for the weight of their confession. "When I was with Jake, I went and got a routine check-up because I thought I might've been..." She trailed off and Mallory nodded in understanding, "T-The doctor told me that I was infertile."
Mallory's eyes widened, her heart sinking with empathy for the pain Taylor must have carried all these years. She reached out and gently squeezed Taylor's hand, a silent gesture of support and understanding.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Mallory asked, her voice a tender mixture of compassion and curiosity.
Taylor's voice trembled slightly as she responded, "I was scared, Mallory. Scared of disappointing you, of shattering our dreams of building a family together. I thought if I didn't acknowledge it, it wouldn't be true. I thought if I kept this secret, I could protect us both from the pain," She explained. "But then you said that and I..."
Mallory's gaze softened, her love for Taylor radiating through her eyes. "Taylor, I wish you had told me sooner, but I understand why you didn't. You know that I'm here for you, and we will face this together, right?"
Tears welled up in Taylor's eyes as she absorbed Mallory's unwavering support. The weight of her secret, once an insurmountable burden, began to feel a little lighter.
Mallory continued, her voice filled with determination, "Our dreams of having a family don't have to be shattered by this, Tay. There are so many different paths we can explore. We can consider adoption, or surrogacy, if you're not comfortable with me being pregnant. Being a parent is not solely defined by biology. It's about love, care, and the bond we build with a child."
Taylor sniffled softly, "I'd be comfortable, happy, with you being pregnant, Mal. If- If that's what you want, too."
Mallory grinned and kissed her cheek. "We'd have to find a donor that fits your description, though. Tall, blonde, gorgeous, blue eyes. Can sing. Has talent."
