Your friendly reminder that on top of cheating on August, Gracie almost missed her 20th and 21st birthday. (The 20th she purposefully avoided August and the 21st she spent with Hayes)

Also this was supposed to be posted last night but I accidentally deleted half the chapter and cried a little <3

June, 2020

Mallory's scalp burned as she rubbed the bleach on her hair. That probably wasn't good but she was too far gone to come back now. She rolled it into a bun and put a shower cap on top of it before taking off her plastic gloves and walking downstairs.

The door was her first stop as she slipped on some shoes and left to the letterbox to get their mail (which would be very scarce since they had almost everything sent to a PO box. She tilted her head when she saw a letter where the address had been handwritten that had been sent to "Tay and Mallory". She kept it at the front of the small pile before jogging back up to the door.

"Tay, we got mail!" Mallory called out as she reread the information on the front. She didn't recognise the handwriting but by the way "Ma" had been crossed out before her whole name had been written next to it suggested that it was someone who didn't particularly like her as much as they liked "Tay".

It was most likely some crazed or deluded fan that managed to bypass security. Well, they didn't have any physical security because of the pandemic and technology isn't always reliable so it wasn't unlikely.

But also it could have been an old friend.

An old friend that was no longer in Taylor's life because of Mallory. It was probably Karlie.

Taylor jogged towards Mallory and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "What are you doing to your hair?"

"Bleaching it," Mallory shrugged. "A letter to "Tay and Mallory.""

The blonde took it sceptically as her wife urged her to read it out loud. She did as asked, inwardly cringing at the plea for forgiveness whilst simultaneously giving them closure. Closure that they don't want or need.

Mallory bit her lip to the point of blood as she willed herself not to laugh. Her cheeks were aching because of how hard she was smiling as Taylor finished the letter with "Lots of love, Karlie."

Just as the final syllable left Taylor's mouth, the calm facade that Mallory wore cracked and she couldn't contain herself anymore, filling the room with obnoxious laughter that made even Taylor smile slightly.

"I'm sorry, I just- Is she giving us closure?" Mallory asked as Taylor gave her the letter to skim read. "Jesus."

Taylor grinned and took the letter back, shoving it into their 'bits and bobs' drawer before turning to Mallory. "I don't know about you, but I think I need a drink after that bullshitery."

"Hold that thought," Mallory chuckled, waving yet another handwritten envelope, this time only addressed to her, this time in a handwriting that she recognised.

Taylor didn't recognise the handwriting, but the Australian stamp was a dead giveaway.

"How did she even get it here?" Taylor gulped.

The brunette just shrugged and tore it open carelessly as her wife watched. Mallory took the letter out of the envelope and jumped as a few Polaroids fell out and onto the floor. She frowned at them and then at the message on the front of the sheet that read, "I thought you'd find more use for them than I did."

Taylor bit her lip as they both crouched down to pick them up. Mallory genuinely smiled at the memory of some of the photos, her good days. Mallory smiling up at the camera at a carnival or sleeping soundly in a pillow fort. It was just a seventeen-year-old being a seventeen-year-old and it was a sight to behold knowing what she was going through during that time.
