November, 2017

Mallory hadn't realised what 'going back to before Tom' had meant when she said it. And now she loathed herself for ever suggesting it. 'Before Tom' meant Taylor looking at her like she's the only girl in the world, getting brunch with her and her friends and having Taylor sit too close to her to be friendly, but not quite close enough to be intimate. 'Before Tom' meant pining and desperately waiting for the latter to make a move, but knowing that she won't. 'Before Tom' meant being in love with someone she couldn't have.

August laughed at her when she explained her situation for a good five minutes and when she stopped, she had tears streaming down her face, ruining her makeup, but she didn't care. When she calmed down slightly, she realised her sister was in genuine distress, because she had told Taylor to make her fall back in love with her and once Taylor got started, nothing was going to stop her.

What Mallory was scared of was that Taylor's efforts would inevitably be in vain because she never fell out of love with the blonde in the first place.

She had sent Taylor on a wild goose chase and was it bad that instead of helping, Mallory wanted to watch her like a bystander? Probably.

Meanwhile, the blonde in question sat in her car, singing some British pop song Mallory had introduced her to, with Karlie in the passenger seat, documenting their journey. When they came to a stop in a gas station car park, Taylor grabbed her phone. She frowned when she saw that Mallory had texted and she hasn't gotten the notification.

"You okay?" Karlie asked, putting her hand down on Taylor's thigh, caressing it in a friendly manner.

"Uh, yeah," Taylor nodded, "Does your phone do this thing where it turns if notifications for certain people?"

The model furrowed her eyebrows and cleared her throat, "No? Why, is something up?"

"I just..." Taylor shook her head dismissively, "It's nothing."

Karlie nodded and turned away as Taylor began texting Mallory back. Taylor was just being stupid and superstitious. No one messed with her phone in March and again in November to stop her from texting Mallory, right? It was a dumb idea and quite frankly, she was scolding herself for allowing the thought to cross her mind.

Besides, the only people that had the password to Taylor's phone were Gigi, Selena, Mallory, Karlie and August. Why would Mallory try to make herself invisible? Why would Gigi and August break them up and then try to get them back together? And Karlie... Well, Karlie hadn't actually done anything that showed her support in her pursuit of Mallory Williams, ever.

In fact, she had been weirdly against the rekindling of their relationship, claiming that she didn't want Taylor to get hurt again.

Taylor suddenly wondered if Karlie had been lying about that night. Had she really invited Karlie into bed? Had she really kissed her, believing that she was Mallory? Even drunk, Taylor had known that Mallory was in England until the kiss. It didn't make any sense. And what was so much worse was that Mallory would have forgiven Taylor for the video with an apology the next morning. But with the kiss piled on... Karlie had to have known that it would send their relationship spiralling.

She felt herself grow pale and nauseous, "I'm gonna go home," Taylor whispered, "I'm not feeling great, I think I'm coming down with something."

Karlie nodded in understanding and rubbed Taylor's arm in a supposedly comforting manner, either not noticing or choosing to ignore the goosebumps that were left in her hand's wake.
