Okay so I may have lied, they haven't survived the Great War yet

August, 2021

Mallory had been living in a state of regret and sorrow ever since the day she left Taylor to suffer through their miscarriage alone. It had been three long and painful weeks since that dreadful moment, and Mallory was determined to make amends. She couldn't bear the thought of Taylor carrying the burden of that loss on her own any longer.

As the sun's rays filtered through the curtains of their bedroom, Mallory sat on the edge of the bed, summoning the courage to have the conversation she had been rehearsing in her mind. She looked at Taylor, who lay quietly beside her, her gaze distant and sorrowful.

"Taylor," Mallory began, her voice soft and tentative. "There's something I need to say. I know I messed up, and I can't even begin to express how sorry I am for not being there when you needed me the most."

Taylor turned to look at Mallory, her eyes tired and filled with pain, but didn't say anything.

Mallory's heart ached at the lack of Taylor's voice. She took a deep breath and continued, "I've been thinking a lot about our child, about Elias. We were so sure it was going to be a boy, and I can't shake the feeling that I let you down."

Taylor's gaze softened a fraction, but her expression remained guarded. "Thinking about it won't change what happened," she replied, her voice tinged with both sadness and anger.

Mallory nodded, her own eyes welling up with tears. "I know," she said, her voice breaking. "But I want to try to make things right, Taylor. I want to show you how deeply sorry I am."

Taylor's brow furrowed in curiosity, a hint of scepticism in her eyes. "And how do you plan on doing that?"

Mallory reached into her pocket and pulled out a small box. She opened it to reveal a delicate necklace with a pendant in the shape of the letter "E." "I got this for you," Mallory explained, her voice trembling. "It's an 'E' pendant, for Elias. I thought maybe you could wear it as a reminder of the love we had for him."

Taylor's gaze shifted from the necklace to Mallory, her expression unreadable. She took the necklace from the box and held it in her hands, her fingers tracing the edges of the pendant. After a moment of silence, she looked back at Mallory, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions.

Without saying a word, Taylor removed the necklace she had been wearing, a delicate chain with a pendant in the shape of the letter "M" - Mallory's initial. She carefully replaced it with the new "E" pendant, her fingers fumbling slightly as she clasped the chain around her neck.

Mallory's heart sank as she watched the exchange. She had hoped that the gesture would be enough to mend the rift between them, but Taylor's actions spoke volumes. The pendant with her initial, which once symbolized their love and connection, now lay discarded on the bedside table.

Tears welled up in Mallory's eyes, but she swallowed her disappointment and forced a small smile. "I just... I love you."

Taylor looked at Mallory, her expression softening ever so slightly. "Actions speak louder than words, Mallory. I need to see that you're truly committed to being there for me."

Mallory nodded, her resolve solidifying. "I'll do whatever it takes to earn back your trust, Taylor. I love you more than anything, and I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you."

Taylor sat up and Mallory watched her.

"I'm gonna go to I-"

"I'm going to LA-"
