icarus flew too close to the sun
his yearning drowned him in a blaze
how lovely, to die having fun
instead of in this grey and dreary haze
i wish i was like him
greeting death with a smile
not ending things on a whim
he could go the extra mile
he wanted to fly
and fly he did
not caring if he'd die
i would have run and hid
the view must have been beautiful
looking straight into a star
his end was far from dull
he bore not one scar
he cared not what others said
instead following his desire
don't dare call him unwise in the head
he just wanted to go higher
he touched the stars
though it was only a second
he glimpsed all the way to mars
he saw death and beckoned
he wished the world would burn with him
for he knew well it was damned
he wanted them to follow, to swim
as into the sky he slammed
icarus flew too close to the sun
his final words unheard
i really think he won
like some reckless bird
icarus was free
he was everything i wish i could be
