Shoto didn't know what to say first, too many questions rushing through his head. All he could do was duck when Keigo sent two feathers flying past his head, sending one of Enji's soldiers that had been sneaking up behind him disappearing into the fray.
"I thought that you... since Touya... Jump!"
Keigo flew into the air, coming to land at Shoto's side, watching as Shoto created a shield of ice, forcing the soldier trapped in it and those behind them to crash to the ground.
"Why are you here?" he asked.
"Tokoyami sent me a message," Keigo replied, the two falling into an easy partnership, fighting off soldiers swiftly, "been staying in Nightstorm for a few years now, working with their guards. Since Touya-" Keigo cut himself off, brow furrowing before he spread his wings and knocked a small unit of soldiers back, "you know I couldn't stay in Endeavour anymore. Didn't exactly have a home to go to."
"I thought my father did something to you. Natsuo and Fuyumi were so-" Keigo pulled him back with a feather before sending a gust of wind with his wings, giving them a moment free from attack. "They were worried."
"I didn't want to leave anything behind. Knowing Enji he would've tracked me down, silenced me before I told anyone what he did to Touya. Do you..." Keigo asked hesitantly.
"I know what happened."
"Well," Keigo tried to brighten his expression, a sharp grin on his face, "I think now is a good time to get even. For Touya."
"For Touya."
Keigo gripped his shoulder tightly before flying into the air once more, a blur of movement weaving in and out of the battle, swords and shields dropping with his precise strength and control of his power. His wings, Shoto remembered seeing them for the first time as a child, Touya introducing the new friend he had made whilst sneaking out into the town. He was in awe, both of the boy's wings and his friendship with his brother, and it hurt even more that both of them had disappeared and left Shoto alone with his father. But now, seeing Keigo grown up and strong, an adult the age Touya would have been, the same passion in his eyes, he felt a small part of his heart heal.
Shoto quickly rejoined the battle, his muscles holding a slight burning ache that only spurred him on further. He reached the heart of Enji's soldiers, glad to see the smaller units of the warriors all around him, forcing the soldiers apart into small groups, using their individual fighting styles and unique powers to overcome the regimented fighting of the soldiers. He saw the warriors anticipating and deflecting attacks, retaliating with their own, and he felt nothing but pride and hope. He wasn't sure how long they had been fighting, how many swords he had seen fall to the ground, until a loud voice caught his attention.
"Oi, Shoto!"
Shoto looked to the west, seeing Katsuki battle his way to his side, sword thankfully not dripping with too much blood.
"Everything is going according to plan."
"And that guy?" Katsuki pointed to Keigo flying above them.
"He was a family friend. We can trust him." Shoto stated, Katsuki nodding showing his faith in Shoto's words, but pausing when he saw the sight of blood on Shoto's side. "I'm okay," he assured. "Just a scratch."
"It better be." Katsuki looked to the far side of the battle, where Enji had finally started engaging with the warriors, growing increasingly angered at being unable to predict their attacks and powers. "You ready?"
"Yes."
Together they charged forwards, moving as fast as they could towards Enji. Thankfully his father was too distracted to notice them approaching, and with each soldier they disarmed, Shoto felt like he was breaking through one more barrier that got in the way of him and his father, the final stand. Soon a trail of abandoned weapons and scorched grass lay behind them, and with a shout the warriors retreated. Shoto and Katsuki shared a look before Katsuki retreated too, Shoto creating a glacier of ice that Katsuki exploded, leaving a barrier of glistening sharp ice between Shoto and Enji and the rest of the battle. Shoto could just about see Katsuki over the top, feeling strength return to him at the confidence in the man's eyes. And then he was gone.
