He didn't realise he had fallen asleep until gentle humming pulled him from his dreamless slumber. His body felt relaxed, his mind at ease, and the slow motion of gentle fingers running through his hair made him relax even further onto his warm cushion.
"Didn't think you'd fall asleep on me, princess." Katsuki's voice broke through the midday quiet of the room, any sound from outside blocked out by the closed windows. It came from just above him, the sound holding deep vibrations that only made Shoto more languid.
"Me neither." He responded, yet made no effort to sit up. Katsuki seemed to agree with his laziness, the arm around his waist holding him closer, half of Shoto's body atop his.
"Gonna waste your last day like this? Don't ya wanna do something exciting?" The king asked, Shoto humming noncommittally making Katsuki laugh.
"This is good too." He finally replied once he felt slightly more awake.
"'Course it is darlin'," Katsuki spoke so quietly, voice muffled by Shoto's hair, that if his mind drifted for just a moment he wouldn't have heard him, "whatever you want."
They stayed like that for a while longer until a low rumble made Shoto lift his head from Katsuki's chest in surprise, seeing a faint red bloom across the man's cheeks.
"You've not eaten?" he asked with a frown.
"Well I was having a morning to myself. Was gonna indulge in a late breakfast with the meat the hunters will bring back from their traps. Then I got a little distracted." He finished with a grin, making Shoto huff and not so gently hit Katsuki's torso as he sat up, satisfied at the grunt the man let out.
"It's likely time for lunch." He looked at the risen sun outside, shining powerfully from its peak in the sky. "I should go so you can get dressed."
"What? Is the princess getting shy?" Katsuki asked from just behind Shoto's ear, arm coming to wrap back around his waist, following him when he sat up to leave.
The same fluttering sensation as the one from this morning returned to his chest, breaths a little lighter when he felt Katsuki's lips brush his neck. His chest felt tight, his core warm, and if he stayed sitting there he didn't know what would happen, what he would do. But it was as if every sense was amplified, from Katsuki's breath on his neck to the fingers that danced across his waist. The man behind him was still, as if waiting to see what Shoto would do next, but he would be waiting for some time since Shoto had no idea himself. He had never felt like this before, the flitting feelings and burning sensations that had passed between them all coming to the surface.
"Want me to let go?" Katsuki asked him quietly, gently, letting Shoto make the next move.
"... I don't think so." He answered just as quietly, words sighed more than spoken. In response, he felt Katsuki's arm tighten just a little, and a passing thought of whether Katsuki's two hands could completely encircle his torso made his temperature spike. He heard Katsuki huff as if amused, and would have gotten frustrated himself if uncertainty and intrigue weren't currently overwhelming him.
"Turn around for me, princess." Katsuki's lips once again brushed his neck, in the slight curve below his ear, as if he was teasing Shoto.
"What will happen if I do?"
"Anything you want, Shoto." Katsuki's head moved to the other side of his neck, his other hand slipping down to his hip, not pulling or squeezing just resting, and Shoto grew even hotter. "Everything."
He let out a slow, stuttered breath before leaning back against Katsuki's chest, feeling the warmth of his bare skin burn through his clothes. His breath became a sharp gasp when Katsuki pulled them both back, Shoto turning from the force and landing atop of Katsuki, legs either side of his waist, hands splayed across his chest. Katsuki looked relaxed, hands resting once more on Shoto's hips, letting him decide what happens next. Their faces were inches apart, a passing image of what would happen if either of them moved slightly closer bringing red to his usually pale cheeks.
