Hermione didn't greet you the morning after. She didn't catch up to you and hold your hand or give you a kiss on the cheek.  You walked alone to the Great Hall, kind of missing your fake girlfriend's presence. And when you walked in, you got your answer as to why she wasn't with you.

She was at the end of the Gryffindor table, talking with Cormac. You felt the need to go up to her and assert who's girlfriend she was but at the same time, you stopped yourself.

She wasn't your actual girlfriend. This was what Hermione wanted and what this entire dating thing was for.

"Go and get Hermione out of there. She's flirting with Cormac." Ron said as you walked up to your seat in the Gryffindor table.

"That's kind of the whole point of this dating thing, Ron. To get Cormac to flirt with Hermione."

"I mean yea but everyone's going to be weird and all suspicious that you're not doing anything to stop her." Ron waved his fork around.

He was right. People would expect you to go up to her and get her away from flirting with him but obviously, you weren't even actually dating in the first place. You looked at Hermione and her red cheeks as she smiled and giggled at whatever Cormac was saying.

Cormac glanced at you and broke into a smug smile until you rolled your eyes and focused back on your breakfast.

You opened the Daily Prophet newspaper laying in front of the pumpkin juice and the article on the front page when you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist.

"Hey, baby. Good morning." Hermione turned your chin to face her behind you and gave you a longing kiss.

"Morning, love." You smiled at her actions and genuinely felt so in love with her. She took a seat next to you and intertwined with your hand.

She didn't let go of your hand, even when walking to your History of Magic class. However, unlike the other days where you and her would talk non-stop, you were quiet and didn't speak.

You kept thinking about when Hermione and Cormac were talking, how happy she was talking with him, and how stupidly a boy like him could make her so happy.

"What's wrong?" Hermione stopped which made you stop.

"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong." You faced her.

"Are you sure? You're usually talkative on our walk to Professor Binn's class."

"It's nothing, I'm fine. I'm just a bit tired-" And before you could finish your sentence, Cormac appears out of nowhere and interrupts you.

"Granger, hey." You rolled your eyes and let go of Hermione's hand, walking alone to class. Little did you know, Hermione hadn't listened to a thing Cormac was saying and watched you walk to class, confused.

---

When Hermione walked into the class with Cormac behind her, you tried your best to not look her way. You heard her giggling and focused your attention on the window on your left.

"Y/n." Hermione called after she situated herself onto her seat to your right. "Y/n. What is the matter?"

"Nothing, 'Mione I'm fine." You gave her a hopefully convincing smile and shifted your view to Professor Binns, trying to pay attention. Hermione took your hand and rubbed it with her thumb before letting go and taking her own notes.

---

"I'm glad Cormac's interested in you." You said leaving the History of Magics classroom once class was dismissed.

"Yea, he's cool. You know he's trying out for keeper for the Quidditch team." Hermione said, walking by your side.

"Yes, I am," Cormac remarked as he caught up to you two. "Hermione, I was wondering if you maybe wanted to hang out after class today." You saw Hermione's eyes light up before looking at you. You forced a smile out.

"Yes, I would love to." Hermione blushed as Cormac winked at her and parted ways to go to another class. You kept your focus on something else as Hermione stared at Cormac walking away.

"I am so excited, Y/n!" Hermione squealed as she grabbed your hands in joy.

You weakly smiled as the brunette swung your hand, elated about what had just happened.

For the rest of your classes that you shared with Hermione, you didn't speak to her much. Whenever she asked you questions or tried to talk to you, you merely nodded or gave one to two word responses.

Hermione was a little worried as to why you acted like this, she had almost thought she'd done something wrong. And when she went to hang out with Cormac for the whole afternoon, you were all she could think about.

Yea, he was cool and entertaining but he just wouldn't listen to what she had to say. All he did was brag about Quidditch and his dad's quidditch days. She hoped this wasn't all the personality he had.

Hermione had thought of how you would always never interrupt her and would always listen to her. You made her feel comfortable.

You were lying on your bed doing some Defence Against the Dark Arts work, a long essay and questions assigned from Snaps. You let out a sigh as you couldn't figure out the last question he assigned.

Right when you were about to give up, you heard a knock on your door.

"Come in." You said after the person on the other side said it was Hermione.

"Merlin, I missed you so much." Hermione climbed onto the bed and wrapped her arms around your body. You felt her chest move up and down as she breathed with her eyes closed.

"Mione, there's nobody around. You don't need to pretend anymore." You said, even though you wanted her to hold onto you for forever.

"I know, but I just want to hold onto my best friend after an exhausting day. Plus it's good practice for when people do see us." Her voice was muffled since her head rested on your neck.

"Exhausting? What happened with McLaggen to make you this tired?" You chuckled as you rubbed circles onto her back.

"Nothing really. He sort of just talked about Quidditch for the whole time."

"That sounds really boring."

"Hey, don't say that he's actually quite cool." Believe it or not, Hermione tried to convince herself Cormac was a great, cool guy. He was cute, she thought.

You didn't respond after and was beginning to drift to sleep. Hermione laid on top of you and didn't change her position. It was weirdly very comfortable for both of you and you had both drifted away to a deep slumber.
