Avery's POV: 2011
Classes had just recently ended. So instead of going home early, I decided to stop by at a local record store (not far away actually from where I live) to expand my taste in music more. The more I discover musicians and their masterpiece, the more music felt like just home in my life.
My friends had to also go home early due to the final thesis purposes that were given by our specific professors. I happened to be studying at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) . I was 17 when I got my scholarship at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I guess I'm too damn lucky to have this opportunity, right? I'm a Creative Writing student in major, and my parents didn't force me to become one. This was my decision in life. A lot of people already complimented me due to the way I write words and poetries not just in English but in both Spanish and Italian. Aside from leaning on to my academics, I also play volleyball during my free times, which would make me to join some various competitions every season.
Being a Texan by heart and California to be my second home was quite unbelievable. I already missed my life in Arlington especially my parents and brothers. As I live in L.A, there I'd spend time with my cousins Camille and Noah. They're funny to have as an accompany in life, you know.
As I entered the record store, it was really peaceful. The scene was cold, like you're particularly staying in a breezy December Scandinavian morning. I began roaming throughout the store to find something new to expand my music taste. I got a lot of collections of albums from various artists I've known displayed in my bedroom. These artists I'd listen to: Taylor Swift, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, The Strokes, Metallica, Queen, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Air Supply, Lana Del Rey, The Lumineers , Poison, Eagles, Type O Negative, Elton John, Tame Impala, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Leonard Cohen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, System of a Down, Pink Floyd, Cannibal Corpse, The Pixies, Bryan Adams, John Denver, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Carly Simon, Korn, Disturbed, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, David Bowie, Def Leppard, Chuck Berry, Megadeth, Slayer, Slipknot, Motorhead, Radiohead, Oasis, Lamb of God, Motley Crue, The Ramones, Vixen, The Script, Green Day, The Damned, The Cranberries, Fiona Apple, The Ronettes, Genesis, Journey, Chicago, Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder, OneRepublic, Bob Marley, ABBA, Journey, Earth, Wind and Fire, Helloween, King Crimson, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Neighbourhood, Judas Priest, Blur , Boys Like Girls, My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Bob Marley, Black Sabbath, Bee Gees, Blink 182, Sex Pistols, The Stooges, Anthrax, Pantera, Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Linkin Park, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Velvet Underground, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machines, The Stone Roses, U2, The Kinks, The White Stripes, Cream, The Cure, The Smiths, The Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Jackson, The Jackson 5, The Mamas and the Papas, and The Real , and such.
As I made my way to the rock section, I was confused of picking something. As selecting some albums randomly, I saw those displayed ones already in one of my collections. And I looked again to one of the never heard one before. As I was picking an album called Suck it and See, in which I never heard of, I checked it first of who's the artist behind the album itself, and then turned out to be the one of the bands I've been listening to, Arctic Monkeys. I also got a collection of their previous albums from the debut until the one called Humbug. Kind of derogatory, but I didn't seem to care at least. The most important thing was to give this album a support and listen for the band if in case I'd get lucky to attend one of their tours.
Looking right beside me, I saw a guy picking one of The Strokes albums, First Impressions of Earth. The guy was quite good-looking, he has gotten this fifties quiff style, a sharp jawline, as I would compliment silently, one of the descendants of Elvis Presley. One thing, he was wearing sunglasses indoors, and he's also wearing a signature black leather jacket, accompanied with a white shirt and a pair of denim jeans.
