Chapter 7: More To What Meets the Eyes

Jeremy above.

I arrived at school just as the bell rang. Becks was walking from her car, not looking like herself at all. She had more a punk edge than her usual girly self.

"Hey, Becks!" I greeted her.

"Oh... you know who I am? I thought I was just some commoner to you royal popular people." She said sarcastically.

I ignored her comment. "So what's with the new look?"

"I'm rebelling against you people."

"You people?"

"Yes... you and every other popular."

"Becks, I've told you before. I never wanted to be popular. And why is this affecting you now? We've been hanging with the same crowd for four years."

"It's different now that I look at it from the outside."

"Becks... you're not on the outside."

"I am! Apparently only you and Shelby like me."

I sighed. "Maybe you need to hang out with more of them and find other friends within the clique other than Shelby and I. The group is huge."

"I did try... with Jason and he blew me off."

"Did he try texting you? He really wanted to apologize to you, and he was actually going to do it before Mackenzie showed up."

"Wait... he was?"

"Yea... He didn't mean to make you feel that way. He'll apologize later to you verbally, but that's mostly what I know."

"This changes everything. Why didn't you say so?" She almost shouted.

"We were trying to!" I laughed. "So am I forgiven?"

She pondered. "You are all half forgiven."

"What does that even mean?"

"That I'm still a bit mad, but I understand now."

We walked into class. "Well I can handle that for now."

She gave me a small smile. "I'll see you after class."

I nodded and we sat down in our seats away from each other. Shelby looked at me, and I gave her a half-smile. She seemed to know that it meant that Becks sort of forgave us and smiled back.

All three boys sat at my table at the same time.

"I see you found Jeremy." I said to Leo.

"It took some time, but I managed. He still won't tell me anything though." Leo mumbled quietly.

I looked at Jeremy, but he refused to look at anyone. He just sat there staring at his purple stone ring, twisting it around his finger.

I wonder what happened. I hope he's ok. Maybe he just went for a walk after he got out of detention to clear his mind.

The final bell rang for class to start. Jeremy made quick eye contact with me, giving me an oddly sad smile. Why is he acting so strange? Did something happen? Did Zepar say something to emotionally scar him?

Jeremy slumped in his chair as the teacher began lecturing but the entire time, Blake, Leo, and I kept our eyes focused on Jeremy.

As Becks and I approached our next class, we spotted Jason outside, blatantly making out with Mackenzie.

"I see you've managed to get what you want." I said to Mackenzie as I stopped outside of the classroom with Becks. Jason had Mackenzie pinned to the wall.
