I rang the doorbell and shoved my hands in the pockets of my jacket. I couldn't figure out why it was cold and cloudy when it was just the first day of school. The transition from summer to fall is never like this. It's usually scorching hot outside and with all of the people putting on their air conditioners... it usually causes a power outage.
Lost in my train of thought, Blake opens the door with a grin and gestures me in with one sweeping motion of his arm. From the outside, I knew his house was big, but when I walked in... It was like I was in some high tech Tony Stark shit.
"Nice view." I mused as I looked out towards the back of the house to see that the wall was an entire window viewing the ocean.
Blake nodded. "Yea... all of our houses have great views. I mean why not spend the money on that." He laughed slightly. He scratched the back of his neck as a silence fell over us. I looked at him not knowing what to say or do.
"So... Uhh... let's get to work," Blake said. His face suddenly brightened, and a grin appeared on his face. "But first..." He started to run up the stairs. "Make yourself at home on the couch. I forgot something in my room."
I was about to protest, but he was out of view. I frowned to myself and made my way to the leather couch.
As I started to pull out my materials, Blake came bounding down the stairs.
"Ready to have your mind blown." He was grinning from ear to ear as he sat down right next to me and set a thick album in my lap.
"What's this?" I asked.
"The photo album of my modeling career." He smirked.
I sighed and set the book aside.
"What?" He asked innocently.
"I'd rather see pictures of you as a little kid so maybe I can piece together what you were to what you are now," I said.
Blake looked down and mumbled quietly, "If only you knew."
"If only I knew what?"
He let out a big sigh. "Nothing. Don't worry about it."
I was silent for a moment. "Well... do you have any pictures of you as a kid?"
"No."
My eyes bulged. "Why not? Didn't your parents ever take your picture?"
"They were never really around or got a chance to. My sister and I... it's just us most of the time. Well... she never really likes talking to me. She sort of shuts me out. But... she's here so I guess that counts for something."
I nodded slowly. "Same goes for my brother and I. My parents both travel a lot for their jobs. My brother and I used to be close and then one day... he shut me out. And of course, he went to college so I guess I'm used to being by myself too." I said quietly.
"Well... now we have each other." Blake mumbled.
I didn't say anything at first. But the wheels started to turn in my head the more I thought of our similarities. "So what do your parents do?"
"My dad... I guess you could say he's the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar company that goes international... worldwide. We have houses in so many places... I think we are at 20 now."
My mouth dropped open. "Damn."
Blake shook his head. "I know. We never really stick to one place long enough. I have honestly never really been in a public school system... except for my early years oddly enough."
"Where was that?"
"Jerusalem."
I cocked my head to the side. "I thought you were from France?"
