November, 1, 1987.
It was morning and we were all awake. We sat at the table eating our breakfast. David was hungry as a horse and had already eaten seven loaves of bread. "What's that hunger for, dear?" I asked as I poured milk into my cup.
"Sometimes I suffer from eating attacks, can I also have some milk?" David asked as he took another loaf of bread from the bag. I sighed and looked at David and poured milk into his glass. "It must be because of your meds you've been given."
David shrugged his shoulders stubbornly. I gave the twins a banana. Elin was getting better after the flu she caught. Occasionally in the night she cried in the night but it passed quickly. As of today she is the old Elin we know again.
David took a sip of his milk and held out a newspaper. "Let's see what the news has to bring today." David says as he turned a page.
"And? What's in it?" I asked. David read and focused with his eyes on the letters. "Nothing special, just that football mess."
David sighed and tossed the paper aside. Suddenly the phone rang. David got up from the chair and answered the phone. I was alone with the twins, I let them eat small pieces of wheat bread.
"MOTHER?!" I heard David shout across the room. I stopped chewing, what? Is his mother calling him seriously?
I heard David stuttering behind the phone. I was shocked. David has had no contact with his real mother for almost years.
Soon David put the phone on the receiver. "That was my mom." He says in a soft voice. I put my hand over my mouth, "Really? What did she say?" I asked. David couldn't believe his mother is trying to get back in touch after years.
"She had heard in the news that I was in hospital in a bad condition, she suddenly became interested in me again, it seems." David said as he slid back to the table.
I poured tea into David's cup, "Really? Aw, she's worried about you. Are you going to contact her?" I asked again. I've always found David's mother a sweet mother, but until she no longer wanted to find contact with her very own son.
David sighed and used the spoon to loosen the sugar in the tea, "I'm not sure if I'm going to do that." David said honestly.
I looked at David, "Well, why not? She misses you!" I asked as I made a sad face. David moved off the table, "She should have thought of that sooner, she cut off contact with me." He sighed as he walked into the living room.
I couldn't say anything to that. I would tell David to grab his chance before it can be too late.
Archie grew restless in the dining chair. He started kicking his legs hard and started screaming loudly. "You sure want to play, go ahead." I said as I lifted Archie out of the dining chair and set him down on the floor. I watched Archie crawl to the room like a happy dog.
I cleared the kitchen table and tossed the plates and cutlery into the sink. I had agreed with myself that I would do the dishes later.
Elin was still in the dining room drinking from her sippy cup. She still looked very tired, which must be after having the flu for the first time.
I lifted Elin from her dining chair, I took her in my arms she held my neck tightly. "Here we go little girl." I say as we walk into the living room.
Suddenly I saw David sitting on the floor with a box of photos, he was just a bit sad. "Hey honey, what are you doing?" I asked as I sat down next to him on the floor with Elin on my lap.
