As I walked through the castle halls with Pansy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder. The textured walls were lined with stunning portraits that seemed to animate before my very eyes. The flickering torches cast a warm glow and as I looked up, I saw the high, arched ceilings adorned with intricate carvings. The Great Hall was especially impressive, as I entered and saw its vastness and grandeur on the first day of school. The long, wooden tables were polished to a shine and ran down the length of the room. The ceiling was enchanted to look like the sky outside. I saw the high table where the professors sat, and a magnificent chandelier that hung from the ceiling. It was an extraordinary sight, and I was filled with excitement and anticipation.

Pansy had to leave me to sit with her house. I was told to wait to be sorted until the first years were done. How embarrassing.

"Now that we have the first years settled into their houses, we have one more student. She is a sixth year, and I hope you all make her feel welcomed. Miss Vitaly? Please sit here." McGonagall pointed to the stool that the sorting hat was sitting on.

I walked nervously to the stool trying to not notice all of the eyes in the room on me. We just had to do this in front of the entire school. I sat down while my leg was bouncing from anxiety. Professor McGonagall placed the hat on my head.

"Ahhh. A Vitaly, I see. I remember both of your parents very well. Both of them were in Gryffindor. But... I don't see that for you. No, no, no... I see... Slytherin!" The sorting hat announced.

I saw the whole Slytherin house stand up and applaud. Except for one person. He just sat there. As I walked to my table, I was able to get a better view of him. It was Draco, the guy who I saw on the train. I saw that Pansy saved a seat for me next to her.

"How did you know I was going to be in Slytherin?" I asked as I sat down.

"Layla, we both know you were most likely going to be in this house. Regardless of what house your parents were in." She whispered with a sad look on her face.

She was probably right. I have a gift that only 3 people in this school know about; Pansy, Professor Dumbledore, and Professor McGonagall. This gift can be... deadly. Not only to me but to other people. It scares me to where I am so determined to control it. I have to control it before it takes me over. I will do whatever it takes, even with all the pain.

"How rude of me. I didn't introduce you to my friends. This is Blaise Zabini, Mattheo Riddle, and Draco Malfoy. Guys, this is my best friend, Layla." Pansy said with an excited look on her face.

Two of the boys said hello to me. But Draco just did a head nod. Is he really that grumpy? A few minutes later, food magically appeared on the table. It looked amazing. As I was eating, I couldn't help but feel like someone was staring at me.

After we finished, everyone went to their common rooms to relax. As we made our way down the corridor and entered our common room, I was struck by the sophisticated atmosphere. The walls were adorned in green and silver, with fine furniture and polished decor. The large fireplace cast a warm and cozy glow, and the light from the chandelier above gave the room a rich, luxurious feel. It was clear that the Slytherin house valued their reputation for refinement and excellence. Though I felt a little overwhelmed, I couldn't help but be impressed by the grandeur and beauty of it all.
