Layla looked absolutely beautiful in her dress. And when she hugged me, I didn't want to let go. I could tell that Regulus didn't like it, but I didn't care. I enjoyed seeing the angry look on his face.

I decided to wait until 11:00 when we all go to the adult ballroom to introduce Layla to my father. I figured it would be easier that way, and she won't have time to ask me any questions.

Blaise took a sip of his drink. "Hey man, you've been staring at Layla for the past hour. What's up with that?"

"Yeah, didn't you say that you guys were just friends? Friends don't look at each other like that." Mattheo added.

I looked away from Layla. "I still care about her a lot. But she's with Regulus now, and I don't want to ruin things between them."

Blaise raises an eyebrow. "So you're just going to sit there and watch her be happy with someone else? That's not very Slytherin of you."

Mattheo laughed. "He's right, you know. You're a Malfoy, Draco. Where's your sense of entitlement?"

I smirked. "Trust me, entitlement is the last thing I need right now. Besides, I screwed up with Layla so many times before. I don't want to risk ruining our friendship."

Blaise nodded. "Fair enough. But you know we're your friends, right? We'll support you no matter what happens."

Mattheo puts a hand on my shoulder. "Yeah, man, don't be afraid to take a chance. Who knows, Layla might feel the same way about you."

I looked back at Layla. I hated seeing her with Regulus. "Maybe. But for now, I'll just enjoy her company as a friend."

Blaise smirked. "Suit yourself. But if you change your mind, just know we'll always have your back."

"I know." I let out a long sigh.

11:00 comes around, and all the kids head to the adult's ballroom. I could see my father talking to his friends by the fireplace. I scope out the ballroom and found Layla. She was with Regulus and the girls. I made my way to them.

"Black." Regulus turned around to look at me. "Can I borrow Layla for a moment?"

"What for?" Regulus furrowed his eyebrows.

"My father wants to meet her."

"Your father?" Layla asked, confused.

"Yeah, he's been asking about you. I thought it would be nice for you to meet him."

"Why can't she meet him another time?" Regulus stepped closer to me.

"He's not always around, and I want her to meet him before he leaves again."

"Why is your father so interested in meeting me?" Layla asked.

"He likes to meet all my friends. Regulus would know that." I looked over at Regulus, and he crossed his arms.

"I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that." Regulus said protectively.

"It's okay. It shouldn't take long. I'll be back." Layla smiled and winked at Regulus. I wanted to throw up.

"Okay." He smiled back and leaned in to kiss her cheek.

We quickly made our way to my father. I wanted to get this over with as fast as possible.

My father saw us walking towards him, and he stopped talking to his friends. "Ah, Miss Layla. It's a pleasure to meet you. Draco has spoken so highly of you."

Layla gave an awkward smile. "Um, hello, Mr. Malfoy. It's nice to meet you too."

My father could sense that Layla was nervous. He chuckled. "Don't worry, my dear. I won't bite. I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to our home."

"Thank you, sir. It's very kind of you." She smiled.

He turned to me and smiled. He never smiles at me. This was all an act, and I'm not surprised. "I'm glad you brought her down, Draco. It was a pleasure to meet you, Miss Layla. Enjoy the rest of your evening."

"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy. You too."

I looked over at Layla. "You go back to your friends, I'm going to talk to my father real fast."

"Okay." She smiled and walked off.

"Good job, Draco. I believe she's the one we are looking for."

"How do you know?" I asked.

"I can see it in her eyes." He paused. "I noticed she was wearing one of your snake rings your mother and I bought you."

"Oh, uh, yeah. I charmed it so I could see where she was at all times. So I could find out more things about her and report back to you."

He smiled at me, and this time, it looked genuine. "You will be a great leader to the army." Then he walked away.

I feel terrible putting Layla in this position. But I don't know what else to do. I know they won't kill her, but I bet dying would be a better outcome than what Arceus and my father have planned for her.
