Love, Hate and Death (Light Yagami x Reader)

CH 29 BRIGHT

"You've been going home to your apartment more often, hm?" Hara asks while fixing her hair into a tight bun. "You know, I've been feeling this for a while now, are you hiding something from me?" She raised her eyebrow and turned to face me, waiting for my response. 

"Huh? What do you mean?" I nervously replied, ending my response with a light chuckle. Hara was pretty observant but she would never pry if I didn't want her to. 

"..Nevermind, I don't want to overstep. You just seem so secretive these days and it's making me feel like you're not telling me something" She sighed, looking back down on the ground. 

"Hara.." I murmured. "as much as I want to share it with you, I can't. I hope you understand, it really is for everyone's sake as well" 

"What..? That makes me think it's that serious. Are you okay?" Her expression sharply shifted to a look of concern. She held my hand and looked at me. 

"Yeah, I am. It's just been a lot but I appreciate you looking out for me, I never really look out for myself so it's nice that someone does" I smiled before wrapping her into a tight hug. 

"Oh, please. You know you can always count on me, y/n. I understand that you can't tell me but I hope that you're not getting hurt in the process, alright? You know you have a knack for making horrible decisions" She teased. 

"Yeah, yeah. enough with the nagging" I chuckled. "I have to go now, it's my break and you could probably guess where I'm going" 

"Be careful, don't forget to make good choices, nurse y/n!!" She exclaimed  from afar as I walk down the hallway towards the exit. 

Hara knows exactly what to say sometimes.. I'm surrounded by really attentive people. 

"I'm home" I calmly announced. "How's the hacking?" I asked, sitting down right beside him on a pillow resting on my carpeted floor. 

"Hey, y/n. I've missed you. How was your day?" He turns to smile widely at me then back at his computer. 

"It was normal, Hara noticed that I've been keeping something from her.. man, she can be quick-witted sometimes" 

"Hm.. I hope you're not considering on telling her about everything. You know how bad it could be for us" He replied, occasionally glancing at me as he works. 

Ah, I didn't even think about the consequences of Hara knowing.. Sure, she would be shocked but there's no way she would report it to the police.. right? 

"Tsk, you can't actually be thinking about telling her.. you barely handled it when I told you I was kira, how are you so sure that she won't be extremely shocked by that revelation" He continued to type diligently. 

"I guess you're right, I won't tell her so don't you worry" I shyly responded, taking a peek on his screen. "You look like you've been at this for hours, you shouldn't force yourself too much" 

I am fully aware of Light's feelings for me but if I know him right, his ideals and goals come first. I wonder if the time we'll spend together in the future would be able to change his priorities..  

"I'm fine. It's important that we know this by today, we don't have much time" He looked at me and gently brushed my hair, letting a few strands in between his fingers as his hand traces down my neck. "Don't worry. I won't exhaust myself. I hate seeing you all stressed just because I refused to sleep for more than 8 hours"

"..Tsk, you care too much about me now, huh? You used to just go along with it because I was your nurse" 

"Right, but you're not just a nurse to me now, I'm sure you know that. A nurse can be replaced but you can't, I can't afford to lose you, y/n" 

"Me neither" I gave him a soft and warm smile, gazing at his piercing eyes. "I'll get you a juice box, be right back" I stood up from my position and walked towards the refrigerator. 

"I got it! I got in" Light yelled as he jumps up from the floor. "Let's take a look, now" He exhales and sits back down, looking a little closer to the screen than earlier. 

"What? You got in? That's incredible!" I ran back to his side and examined his screen, his other records seemed normal but one transaction stood out. 

"Ah, just last week, Doc Daiki received 5 million yen in his account. It was deposited by someone named.." He reads through the records as he squints his eyes to see the rest of it. "It's an unknown sender. He probably thought this through, he's being careful but we can guess from here who sent that huge sum of money anyway" 

"So your theory is right, isn't it? Riku sent him the money he owed so that they could be in good terms; that way, Riku could ask a favor from Doc and that is to stash the death note" 

"Mhm, that's right. Now we know the location of the death note" He sighed from relief and turns to hug me. "I feel great, this must be how I felt when things go exactly as I planned" 

Nothing was brighter than the light in his eyes as he perfectly find out what he wanted to. I could tell by his face that he lived this way, cleverly plotting for a long time.
