Love, Hate and Death (Light Yagami x Reader)

CH 36 IDENTITY

I gazed at Ryuk, from head to toe. He was far from human but the way he communicated with us, he reminded me of anyone who sucked at negotiating. 

"Come on, two more apples and I'll really tell ya" Ryuk laughs at his plead. 

"You ate a full bag already. Tell us first or we won't give you anymore" Light firmly stated as he stood up from the sofa and crossed his arms, facing Ryuk. "Start the story, shinigami" 

"Okay, okay. I don't recall you being this bossy" He says, floating down beside me. "Remember when Rem killed L, the great detective you fought for a long time?" 

"Yeah, barely" 

"Well, you reigned as Kira for quite a while after L died but all of a sudden, it came crashing down when a random civilian found out about the death note" Ryuk continued. 

"Who was it?" 

"I think that question would cost you another apple, mister" Ryuk cackles, literally smiling from ear to ear. 

"Fine" Light tosses another apple to him, waiting for his answer. "Now, tell me" 

"His name's Riku. He found out about the death note so he tried stealing it from you; of course, you didn't let that happen. You both ended up in the second floor of your father's headquarters, arguing about the death note, things escalated and he accidentally shoots you in the shoulder and pushed you off the ledge"

"Wait, I was told that two people were in the scene with Light.." 

"Nope, it was just Riku" Ryuk replies. "Man, that kid has terrible aim. But you get to live because of that, don't ya Light?" He chuckles again, familiarizing me with his strange laughter. 

"So he pushed me and grabbed the death note.. I lost my memories due to the fall and also because I lost ownership of the notebook" Light ponders upon hearing this new information. "But how'd we end up there in the first place? I would never meet up with someone who's intention is to steal something that's mine" 

"Well, he threatened to expose your identity. I mean, of course, even for you, that was a huge threat to your plan" Ryuk answers, keeping his eyes open and not pausing to blink.

"How'd he find out?" 

"Ah, I don't know about that. I don't really pay that much attention to most of what you're saying" Ryuk shrugs before biting into another apple. 

"Okay, so at least now we can confirm that Riku is the one behind all this. He was the one playing kira while you were at the hospital" I spoke, turning my head to face Light. 

"Right..but why? What was the purpose of stealing the death note?" Light scratches his head, ruffling his hair to think of all the possible reasons he could come up with. "Was he also planning on eliminating evil? Or was he going to use it for fun..?" 

"Isn't it obvious? I remember you being smarter than this, Light" Ryuk laughs. "But then again, you did lose most of your memories so you being a little stupid right now is reasonable" 

"What are you talking about, do you know why Riku stole the death note?" I asked, mixed with impudence. 

"To kill his brother" 

To kill Doc Daiki? He would go so far as to kill his own brother?

"You guys know who his brother is, right? He's a big-shot doctor. I think his name was-"

"Daiki" I interrupted, looking down on the floor.

"Yeah, how'd you know that? Anyways, Riku mentioned him a lot; saying he wants to get rid of him and just finish him using the death note..but he never did. Lots of times, he would grab a pen and try to write down his name but he couldn't" 

So, he still couldn't bring himself to kill Doc Daiki, huh. 

"Every time he failed, he would get so mad that he kills random criminals he sees on tv. It wasn't even fun to watch since it was clearly just him channeling his anger into writing down their names" Ryuk commented, laughing a little after. 

"..What do we do now, Light?"

"We have to find Riku" Light states with a hint of redness in his eyes. "He knows who Kira is after all"
