"The police went to my brother's house but apparently, he wasn't there.. I don't know where he went but I'm guessing that he fled with Light as his hostage"  Doc Daiki sighed deeply, enough for the nurses that pass by to hear.

He has escaped?.. this is not good, Light definitely won't be happy to hear this

"What? Where could he be then..? Does this mean that it's been confirmed that he is Light's kidnapper?"

"No, there aren't definitive proofs to prove that he did it, all we have is that cctv footage and it's circumstantial at best.."

"It's very suspicious that he disappeared the moment he was investigated, though. I hope the police is taking that to account"

"they're police, you can't tell them how to do their job, silly. They wouldn't tell you how to do a surgery or something" He scoffed. Daiki was a little more brazen today than he usually is, he's being sarcastic and he's even saying things that don't add up; I mean, nurses don't perform surgeries.

"Alright, I'll do whatever I can to help, please just tell me what I can do" I excused myself with a smile, walking slowly to Light's old hospital room after seeing Doc Daiki sigh after our interaction like he always does.

Looks exactly the same.. the only thing missing is his glass of water he places over the table every morning. I miss how it used to be.. things went south so fast.

"What have I gotten myself into" I sighed as I plopped right on his empty bed, chuckling about my past decisions that led me to this moment.

I should call Light..

"Hello?" Light weakly uttered, his voice was a little hoarse and raspy.. was the medicine not working?

"Light, the police didn't find Doc Daiki's brother in his house, he must've escaped with the death note" I replied, looking out the window as the sun sets and its rays create a perfect silhouette of my body in Light's room.

"He escaped? He must've thought that the police knew about the death note so he disappeared with it.. it's suspicious though that the killings have stopped even if he has the notebook with him"

"What if he didn't? What if he left it with someone so that person gets framed for killing all those criminals written in the notebook, and so he could also escape more efficiently without the weight of having a death note with him..?"

...

"That's.. possible. I'll try and look into Doc Daiki.. by the way, that's a really smart conclusion you came up with, I'm impressed" I could see his face with a smug smile as he compliments me through the phone.

"Oh, come on. I know I'm amazing, tsk" I scoffed, deliberately trying to hide the fact that I was blushing from a simple praise.

"Of course, I never doubted your abilities for a moment.. you must be blushing right now, are you? It's pointless to try and hide it from me" He added, possibly smirking despite how sick he may still be.

"Shut up, Light. I might be home a bit late so heat up the soup I left for you in the refrigerator. If I'm not home by 9, drink the pill on the coffee table, alright?"

"Yes, ma'am. Take care. I'll see you when you get home"

...

The way he said that, it felt like we were a couple who lived in the same house.. I hung up right after he uttered those words, I felt like these feelings were already complicated as it is.

"You goin' home today?" Hara quietly asked, after turning her office chair to face me.

"Yeah, I'm really tired and it would be nice to sleep in my apartment for once" I chuckled through the lie. Hara was a really close friend of mine but we wouldn't know for sure what her reaction will be if she found out that Light wasn't really kidnapped and is in fact, resting in my house.

"That's weird, usually, I would be the one to go home and receive your wake-up call" She laughed a little. "You're going on a date, aren't you?" She raised her eyebrow and smirked.

"What? No. You know I don't have time for that, especially since my patient is still missing" I playfully rolled my eyes while I arranged my bag on an office chair beside her.

"Oh please, you don't have to hide it from me, you know. Go on, enjoy your date. I'll sleep here so there's at least one of us who obeys the rules, hm" She laughed after smacking my arm multiple times. "Have fun! And don't forget to tell me everything tomorrow, mkay? Or I'm telling Doc Daiki!" Hara waved goodbye, still giggling from her own assumptions.

How silly.. I'm obviously hesitating to go home right now, after our passionate kiss last night. I didn't let it escalate from there but a little part of me sure did want to.
