IN THE SOFT GLOW OF THE CRACKLING FIREPLACE, Jieun and Riki found solace, their bodies entwined in a comforting embrace. Nestled between Riki's sturdy legs, Jieun's delicate figure was adorned in a floor-length linen night gown, adorned with delicate embroidered flowers that danced across the fabric. Riki, adorned in a loose-fitted tunic, left casually unbuttoned, allowed glimpses of his chest, coupled with a pair of breeches that granted him freedom of movement. Seated upon the couch, his right leg bent, he leaned casually against the armrest, his right arm loosely draped around Jieun's waist.

To accommodate their closeness, Riki's left leg extended onto the floor, granting Jieun ample space while providing himself with a sense of stability. Jieun, fully curled up against his chest, found comfort in the rhythmic rise and fall of his breathing as she nestled closer. With rapt attention, she listened to the soothing timbre of his voice as he immersed himself in the pages of a cherished book, its words filling the air and caressing her ears with each uttered syllable.

'And on the fourteenth day, she gave her life up so he could live,' Riki concluded, his voice trailing off as he closed the book. Jieun's eyes widened in a mixture of awe and sorrow, her gaze shifting to meet Riki's. Her delicate lips parted to express her disbelief.

'No, but that's tragically beautiful,' she murmured, her voice tinged with a hint of melancholy.

Riki's fingers tenderly brushed aside a stray strand of hair that had fallen across her face, his arm tightening around her waist. His thumb began tracing gentle circles against the fabric of her nightgown, soothing her restless thoughts. The news of the approaching banners on the horizon had left her tense and apprehensive.

Sensing her unease, Riki sighed softly, drawing her even closer. With a gentle motion, he placed the book aside, allowing their bodies to meld together seamlessly. His chest pressed against her back, and his chin found a resting place upon her shoulder. Both of his arms enveloped her waist, embracing her with unwavering warmth. They swayed together, a tender dance born out of shared comfort.

'You're too tense,' he whispered, his voice a breathy caress against her ear.

'I have my reasons,' Jieun replied, her tone equally hushed, laden with unspoken worries.
