WORD HAD REACHED JUNGWON THAT THE QUEEN DOWAGER OF THE WEST HAD FALLEN, executed in front of the masses. A troubled expression crept over his face. Doubt and confusion plagued his mind as he grappled with the reality of his mother's demise. Seeking answers, he turned to Deji, his wife, hoping she could shed light on the circumstances that led to such a drastic outcome.
Deji, aware of the opportunity presented to her, chose her words carefully, subtly weaving a narrative that would sow seeds of doubt and resentment in Jungwon's heart. Her voice carried a calculated mix of concern and accusation. 'Jungwon, my love, it is a tragic tale indeed. The cruelty displayed by Jieun and Riki knows no bounds. How could Jieun, a woman you once called a sister, turn against her own mother-in-law? It seems their thirst for power and control has driven them into such heinous acts.'
Jungwon's brows furrowed as he absorbed Deji's words, the weight of uncertainty burdening his thoughts. Conflicting emotions battled within him, torn between his love for Jieun and the loyalty he held for his mother. He found himself questioning the true nature of the events that had unfolded.
But she continued to exploit the crack in Jungwon's trust, subtly pushing him towards doubt. 'My dear, have you not seen the darkness that has engulfed Jieun since she allied herself with Riki? It is said that power corrupts, and it seems they have succumbed to its seductive allure. Is this the future you envisioned for our realm? A reign tainted by their ruthless ambition?'
All the while Jungwon's mind swirled with confusion and conflicting emotions. His loyalty to his family clashed with the whispers of doubt planted by Deji. He looked into Deji's eyes, searching for answers and seeking solace in their shared bond. 'Deji, I no longer recognise Jieun,' he confessed, his voice tinged with a mix of sadness and frustration. 'She has changed, become someone different. It feels as though she has been betrayed and led astray.'
Her expression hardened, her words cutting through the air with a dismissive tone. 'Jungwon, my love, do not let yourself be deceived by illusions,' she retorted, her voice laced with a hint of disdain. 'Jieun is weak, consumed by delusions of power and vengeance. She has everything she ever wanted — the love of Riki, the adoration of the people. What reason does she have to wage war? It is merely a facade, a way to disguise her own insecurities and shortcomings.'
Jungwon's confusion deepened as he listened to Deji's calculated words. He felt torn between his love for Jieun and the unsettling doubts that gnawed at his heart. He longed for clarity, for a resolution that would align with his sense of justice and honor.
But as he gazed into Deji's eyes, he could not help but question her motives. Was she truly concerned for his well-being and the stability of the realm, or was there something more sinister lurking beneath her facade of loyalty?
