THE MOON HUNG HIGH IN THE SKY AS JIEUN AND RIKI MADE THEIR WAY BACK TO THE CASTLE, their hoods pulled low to conceal their identities. Their footsteps echoed softly in the deserted corridors, the castle shrouded in an eerie stillness.
As they reached the entrance of the castle, they were suddenly halted by two figures standing guard. Jake and Jay, scrutinised the hooded figures before them, their swords at the ready.
'State your business,' Jake demanded, his voice firm and cautious.
Jieun and Riki exchanged glances. With a swift motion, they lowered their hoods, revealing their faces to the perplexed guards.
Recognition slowly dawned in Jake's eyes, followed by a mix of confusion and concern. 'My Queen! My King!' he exclaimed, his voice filled with astonishment.
Jay's eyes widened, his gaze shifting between Jieun and Riki. 'May I ask where you've been?'
Jieun exchanged a brief glance with Riki, a mixture of guilt and determination flickering in her eyes. She knew she had to handle this situation carefully, as their unexpected departure had been an attempt to gather their thoughts away from prying eyes.
'We needed some time alone,' Jieun replied, her voice steady but tinged with a touch of unease. 'There were matters we needed to discuss in private.'
Riki stepped forward, his eyes meeting Jay's with sincerity. 'We apologize for any confusion or concern caused by our absence,' he added, his voice carrying a tone of earnestness.
Jay's brow furrowed as he voiced the unspoken question. 'Forgive me for my bluntness, but how did you manage to leave without alerting any of us?' he asked, his tone a mix of curiosity and concern.
The pair exchanged a knowing glance, their eyes dancing with mischievous amusement. They shared a subtle smirk before Jieun shook her head, keeping their secret close to their hearts.
'It's a secret we'll keep for now,' Jieun replied, her voice laced with a hint of playfulness. 'Just know that we had our reasons, and we are here now, ready to face the challenges ahead.'
Jake and Jay exchanged another glance, their confusion deepening but choosing not to press further. They had long understood that Jieun and Riki possessed an uncanny ability to navigate the shadows, their strategies sometimes best kept hidden.
'Very well,' Jay conceded, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips. 'We trust that you have your reasons. But going forward, please keep us informed.'
While Jieun had enjoyed their moment in private and secrecy, she understood the need for transparency and trust among their allies.
With the matter settled, Jieun and Riki, accompanied by Jake and Jay, proceeded to their chambers. As they entered the familiar space, the weight of the world seemed to lift from their shoulders, if only for a moment.
In the soft glow of candlelight, Jieun and Riki found solace in each other's presence. They shed their cloaks, allowing them to fall to the floor, and made their way towards the bed, ready to find respite in a peaceful slumber.
Jieun sank onto the bed, its softness cradling her weary body. Riki joined her, settling beside her with a gentle sigh of relief. They intertwined their fingers, their hands seeking comfort in the warmth of their touch.
As they lay there, side by side, the weight of their responsibilities and the battles that lay ahead seemed to momentarily fade away. Jieun found comfort in the warmth of Riki's embrace, her head resting against his chest as his steady heartbeat served as a lullaby.
In the quiet intimacy of the chamber, Jieun broke the silence, her voice soft yet resolute. 'Riki, tomorrow I must journey to the city,' she whispered, her fingers tracing gentle circles against his chest. 'There are matters that require my attention.'
Riki nodded, his fingertips gently brushing against Jieun's cheek as he met her gaze. 'I understand,' he replied, his voice carrying an understanding tone. 'I will be in the training court all day, find me when you come back.'
