Isaac POV

Living with my dad is too chaotic, so I hadn't tried to get close to any girl, except when I failed miserably at asking Lydia Martin out last year.

Alexandra is so different, though; she doesn't care about popularity or brands. She knows what is happening with my dad and is trying to help me, but I can't risk it.

If my dad finds out that someone knows, I will end up in that f*&^ng freezer again.

I like Alexandra and think she likes me too; I hope we can become more than friends.

We both have complex backgrounds, but maybe we can have a better present/future together.

+++ At school the week of Winter  Formal+++

I avoid the cafeteria at all costs, so I usually go to the music room during lunchtime. Playing my violin, I get in the zone as the world stops around me.

I was thinking about an old song that always made me sad, "The one who got away," I automatically started playing "You are my sunshine," which is used in the music video.

When I finished, I realized that Isaac was there looking sad with teary eyes.

"Hey, are you ok? What happened?"

"Yeah, yeah, all good," he said, drying his eyes super-fast like trying to avoid me noticing.

"What's up, Lahey?"

"Nothing; I haven't seen you around school, and Danny mentioned you would probably be here."

"Oh, ok" (note to self: slap Danny for sharing my secret spots!)

When I look closely, I notice Isaac has a black eye. I put down my violin and walked near him, putting my hand carefully on his bruise without saying anything.

He starts sobbing the moment I touch him, so I just hold him in my arms. A few minutes pass in silence while he cries.

"My life is such a mess. I feel so frustrated and powerless, and when I heard you playing that song, you triggered some memories. My mom sang that one to me when I was a kid," he started crying again.

"Do you want to talk about her?"

"I don't remember much. Mom passed when I was five, but I remember that I was more blonde back then, so my mom sang that song to me because she said that my hair reminded her of the sunbeams.

I was her little boy, while my brother was my dad's favorite. Sometimes I think he would have preferred I was dead instead of Camden."

"Well, he is the one missing out on enjoying time with an amazing guy; that's his fault. You deserve so much better, Isaac."

"You are my better! I wanted to take you to the Winter Formal this week, but my dad has been off the hinges lately, so I need to play it safe."

"It's ok. I don't want you to get in trouble, plus you know I would be completely out of place in a school dance," I could see Isaac was so bummed about it. My heart broke for him.

+++ Later that day +++

After seeing Isaac's black eye this morning, I couldn't wait any longer and decided to talk to Sheriff Stilinski. I grabbed the delivery order for the station and headed over there. Stilinsksi is a great man, committed to his job and caring.
