When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
'Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a whileBefore Isaac shows up today, Jessi explains she needs me to house-sit this weekend as she will be out. I don't mind helping her with that. But I told her I needed to talk to her about something else.
"Lexi, you are like my baby sister, and I appreciate you coming to me to talk about this. Your mom was not around to speak with you about many life situations. So, let's talk.
Your reaction is entirely normal; not everyone jumps into the sex wagon like it is nothing. Please do not feel ashamed and ask me whatever you want.
What I like the most is that, from what you tell me, Isaac is a caring partner. He didn't try to guilt or push you into doing anything you weren't ready to do.
The second most important thing is that whenever you are ready to take that step, you use protection," Jessi is in full big sister mode. I feel so much calmer about this.
We talked for a while, I still feel weird about asking too many questions, but at least now I don't feel like an alien because of my reaction.
After my chat with Jessi, I meet with Isaac because today is the day we start training for the track and field team tryouts.
I agreed with Isaac to at least get involved in something more social. Since I enjoy jogging, he convinced me to try for the cross-country team.
After practice, we are tired and lean against a tree while drinking water. Isaac says he thinks I will make the team because I am fast and strong.
I tell him a bit ironically that when one lives in parks, and the creeps come after you, the only option is outrunning them.
"Lexi, that is actually not funny. You have never told me how your life as a runaway was. The other day I noticed a scar on your back; if you are ok with it, could you tell me what happened?"
"I don't like talking about my past, but I guess I will have to tell you someday. When I got to Beacon Hills, I first slept on benches and even here at the preserve.
But, there was a stormy night that I couldn't just be outside, so I went to the homeless shelter. I was cleaning the mud from my face in the bathroom when the power went off. I heard an eerie laugh and a screech as I was trying to leave the darkness.
The next thing I knew, I felt an excruciating pain in my back and started to lose strength.
When the light came back, the staff at the shelter found me and called the police and the ambulance immediately. I had been lying alone for around 15 minutes, feeling my life slipping away while the blood continued spreading around me, gasping for air in the dark.
That's when Sheriff Stilinski showed up and took me to the hospital. Scott's mom was the nurse involved in my case when I arrived at the ER. I remained hospitalized for almost a week; I guess you can say I am a survivor."
"I told you, it is like death is circling me like sharks on the water."
Isaac is in shock, and I can tell he doesn't know what to say.
"Why didn't you tell me this before?"
"Really, yeah, because it is a great icebreaker. I am a screwed-up girl with a dark past who was almost murdered. Want to hang out?"
"Well, my baggage is not that easy either, so I guess we can help each other heal our wounds, right?" he says, extending his hand to help me get up from the floor.
