When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
t's where my demons hide
It's where my demons hide
Don't get too close, it's dark inside
Isaac's POV
I wake up to very low noises, like whimpering coming from Lexi. I hug her closer, trying to help her calm down. She instinctively grabs my arm, but I can see her frowning in her sleep. She is having a nightmare.
My poor girl always seems so strong and ready to face life, but her demons attack once she closes her eyes, and things get complicated. I try calming her by caressing her hair, which somehow soothes her.
To be honest, I am not sleeping too well lately either. I am afraid of hurting Lexi or the impact it might have on her if something happens to me. I have never felt like this with anyone, I need her close, but sometimes I am so afraid because even though I know she is strong, she seems fragile.
Now is my time to talk to Jessi, as Lexi is getting ready.
"Hey Jessi, I know we haven't talked much, but I care about Lexi a lot, and I am a bit worried; she has mentioned she has nightmares lately. I don't know how to help her with those."
"I wish I knew how to help her. Since moving here, she has had issues with PTSD and anxiety, so you can join the club. We are a small group, but those who truly know her are all here to try to help her. You know that I have never seen her cry.
She is just too proud and stubborn, and since she is emancipated from her mom, the state considers her an adult, so I can't force her to take any steps to go to therapy or anything like that.
She is one strong girl; please treat her well, and please don't get her pregnant," says Jessi, very seriously.
"Oh, don't worry, we are not even close to doing anything like that for now," I say, but then notice Jessi's scolding glare.
"Never, we are planning to never get to that," I say, feeling my face red.
"I am just kidding, dude; just please treat her well. I have never seen her interested in anyone.
Danny was her only friend her age for a while, and then you and Boyd started hanging out with her, and she really cares for the three of you.
But you know she cares for you differently than for the other two. So please be mindful of all she has gone through, and don't break her heart."
"I would never."
+++ Summer Love +++
School is finally over, and I have more time for myself with the summer break. Now, I can work the morning shifts having more hours to do what I like. More violin, jogging, walks in the preserve, and more time with Isaac.
My priority is helping him get caught up with school. I am tutoring him so he can pass Chemistry. Isaac is smart, but it's hard to make him stay focused for long.
Since my room is small, we sometimes study at Derek's place, where Isaac lives now, the town's public library, and sometimes we even go to the preserve. After a few days of trying to get him to finish some material, I devised a reward system.
For every chapter we complete, I add five minutes of make-out sessions. You wouldn't believe how well that offer worked.
In the preserve, we usually do our English summer reading. We sit by a tree, and either he lies down, resting his head in my lap, or the other way around, me with my head resting on his lap. We take turns reading the chapters and quiz each other to ensure we got the story. The time we spend reading is so calm, and the breeze is so lovely that we often end up falling asleep and napping under the trees.
