TOBIAS-

The old blue truck rattles as I pull up into one the many free parking spaces that line the exterior of Divergent High. Christina leant across the middle of the two seats from where she sat shotgun, and planted a chaste kiss on my cheek.

"Bye," she chimed and quickly hopped out. "I've got to go to the office, apparently I'm supposed to buddy the new girl around."

I swung the door open and quickly grabbed her waist as she passed by my side. The tanned girl let out a quick shriek as she fell back into my chest. "Is that how you say goodbye?" I teased and made sure that my lips brushed her ear.

She spun in my arms and pressed her reddened lips to mine for a few seconds. "Better?" She teased back and threw her hair to the side.

"It'll have to do," I shrugged as a car horn signalled for us to move out the way, "tweeddle dumb and dumber just arrived."

"Bye," she pressed her lips to mine once more before trotting off.

I stepped out the way as their junk pile of a car pulled into the empty spot before the engine's hum slowly died down.

"Hey, Tobias," Zeke greets me as he climbs out the roofless vehicle. It's not one of the cool convertible cars without a roof, it's roofless because a tree fell on it a few weeks ago and instead of getting it fixed, he got it removed. "Thanks for saving us a spot by he way, although, I'd feel better about it if you and Chris didn't try to crawl down each other's throats in it."

I punch his shoulder lightly and sling by bag over my shoulder before heading towards the main doors. "You coming?" I call out over my shoulder and Zeke and Uriah quickly follow in my footsteps.

I make my way through the crowded halls until I find my locker and dump my backpack inside.

Last year I was the new kid, this year I'm not. And that means that I have a reputation that fellow students - girls - are eager to see if I maintain. And it's because of that reputation that I receive a few glares from teachers that pass me by.

"Mrs. Mathews," I call out to the blonde woman that just passed. I see her shoulders tense up as she turns to face me. "I've got you for math again this year." A smirk tugs at my lips as I plaster on a fake grin.

"Oh dear God, I hope not," I hear her mutter under her breath before turning and walking away.

A loud commotion starts up from further down the hall and students flock like wild animals to get a glimpse at what today's gossip will be. I don't care about gossip, it's a waste of time. The only time that I ever show any interest in it is when I'm intrigued to know what the ladies have been saying about me recently. The information is extremely valuable because it allows me to pick my next potential 'lady friend' as Uriah likes to call it.

So there I am, just minding my own business when the freaks I call friends run up to my locker and Uriah starts hyperventilating.

"Dude, dude, dude! You have to check out the new girl, she's smokin' like it's just- There she is!"

And sure enough... There she is.

A girl that arrived on these grounds probably twenty minutes ago at the maximum has already got everyone's attention. She just struts in with her skirt too short, her heels too high and her shirt too low and her blonde hair is flicking perfectly with both Peter and Eric at her sides.

I mean... I'm not complaining, it's just, I've seen it all before.

She plants a quick kiss on Eric's cheek before retrieving her purse from Peter and sauntering down the hallway solo.

She's changed so much yet so little since last time I laid eyes on her, I thought as the clicking of her heels hypnotised me. Even her steps sound confident, last time I heard them, she was timid and shy.

She continues to strut... Straight. Towards. Me.

"Hey, Four," her all too familiar voice sings and she leans on Uriah's shoulder. His eyes almost bulge out of his skull as he looks her up and down and mouths something incomprehensible to Zeke.

"Four?" one of my moronic friends question. "Is that some stupid nickname from your old school."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I always seem to do that... It's and inside joke type of thing." She says whilst smiling at Uriah who is now finding it hard to breathe.

"Wait, how do you know each other?" Zeke questions, more to me than the girl.

"We were friends back in Chicago," I state bluntly but internally groan.

"Ooh we were great friends, weren't we, Four?" She shoots Uriah another smile before her glossy lips continue to talk. "I'm his ex."

What the hell is she doing here?

"I'm sorry, how rude of me," she gasps and brings her hands up to her chest. "My name's Tris, by the way," she removes herself from Uriah's shoulder and steps closer to me before whispering into my ear, "but you can call me Six."
