TOBIAS-
Nothing can ever prepare you for it. You can try to make a plan, have a list of things to do. But they never really work.
You just find yourself falling. And there's nothing you can do to slow down and the floor is so far away that you have no clue when the final drop will be.
"Soph! Sophie!"
You just know it's coming. And nothing you do will stop it.
"It hurts, Toby. Toby, it hurts."
"I know, Sophie, I'm sorry princess. You just have to chew on these they'll be here soon and everything will be okay."
"Make it stop, Toby."
"I'm trying, Sophie. I'm trying."
It's just an eternal plummet. Gaining speed as you fall longer.
"Help me, Toby. Please."
"I'm- I'm trying, Sophie."
Until eventually, you crash.

But people turn to anything in times of need.
Drink.
Drugs.
Sex.
God.
They're all just distractions. Something to pin hope to. Something to pin blame on.

"He didn't answer me," I sobbed, hunched over the empty cot. "He didn't answer my prayers."
A nurse stood by my side. A golden cross hung around her neck.
"Dear boy," she said, in such a sweet, delicate voice, "God always answers us, it's just- sometimes... It's not the answer we were looking for."
