Me, my brother Steven, my sister Belly, and my mom gathered our things and headed to the car. As we loaded up the trunk, i could feel the excitement building. We were finally heading off to cousins, and I couldn't wait to see what was in store this summer.

My mom took the driver's seat, as steven decided he was to lazy to drive last minute and dropped out leaving my mom to drive. I called shotgun, leaving Steven and Belly to squeeze into the back. As I buckled my seatbelt and settled in, I felt a sense of comfort and familiarity. No matter what was heading our way this summer, I knew that we were in this together.

The car ride to cousins was filled with excitement and anticipation. My sister Belly was busy scrolling through her phone, looking for the perfect song to play next. My brother Steven's eyes were glued to his phone he had his headphones in, occasionally he would lookup to point out interesting sights along the way.

My mom was driving, singing along to the radio and occasionally checking the map. As for me, I was lost in thought, reflecting on the summer so far and wondering what adventures lay ahead. It was the summer I turned pretty, and I felt like everything was changing.

As my mom was driving she turns down the radio and announces "guys i have something to say"

Me, Belly and steven all reply with "what" in unison.

"I want you to be better about helping out this summer. Like, don't just leave you dishes in the sink. Load them into the dishwasher" she says in a serious tone.

" and not just your own dish either steven." she says eyeing my brother from the rear view mirror.

"w- what" steven says before my mom cuts him off.

"i want you to be good house guests" she exclaims.

"mom susannah has people who clean, doesn't she" steven says back

"steven!" she said in a angry tone while moving her arm back and giving his leg a smack, Me and Belly giggle watching him get told off.

"ow!" steven screeches dramatically.

My mom is weird about money the fact susannah has a lot and we don't.

"Just be considerate and act like i raise you right. Steven and Lexi that means don't stay out to late" she says nagging us

"Mom, i'm too old for a curfew!" he argues back.

"Okay, whatever" i say sounding annoyed

From the backseat belly says "wait, what about me? I don't have a curfew either right?"

Steven starts laughing hard "What do you need a curfew for? You don't have any friends and it's not like you go anywhere"

"Don't be a jackass steven!!" Mom yells at him

"Belly we'll talk about it when something comes up" She explains to my little sister

Belly didn't have many friends in cousins she mostly just hung around the moms, me and the boys if they were home. All the boys see her as some little girl, I do feel bad for her sometimes as she's only like 2 years younger than me. I'm 17, the boys are 17/18 and bells is 15.

We pulled up to the small market, the car engine still humming as we parked in the shade. My mom turned off the ignition, and we all piled out of the car, stretching our legs after a long drive. The market was quaint and charming, with colorful produce spilling out of baskets and the smell of fresh bread wafting through the air.

My sister Belly was immediately drawn to the snack aisle, while my brother Steven headed straight for the ice cream isle. As for me, I wandered through the aisles, taking in the sights and sounds of this new place. It was the summer I turned pretty, and I felt like anything was possible. With my family by my side, I knew that this was just the beginning of a summer.

My mom was getting baskets full of food for the beach house as i waited i got some snacks for myself and went to the cashier. The cashier looked at me in a weird way his eyes widened when i walked up to the counter.

"Are you new this summer" the cashier says looking at me up and down

"Uh, me? N- no" i say while looking around to see if he was speaking to somebody else

"really? hm i thought i knew every pretty girl in cousins" he says in a flirty tone (YUCK)

i just stand there and let out a small chuckle as it was kind of awkward and i didn't know what to say.

Trying to carry on the conversation he says to me"coming to the bonfire tonight? first of the season"

i reply awkwardly with "uh maybe"

"Come i'll introduce you to some of my friends" he chuckles

"maybe i will" i say trying to end the convo

I pay for my snack and head back to the car, i think to myself what an odd guy the way he was looking at me, but i was happy that somebody well A BOY had complemented me on my looks, for like the first time ever! I sit waiting patiently in the car for the rest of my family to get what they need.

The car windows were down, and the wind was whipping through our hair as we drove towards the beach house. My mom was singing along to the radio, while my sister Belly was busy taking selfies. My brother Steven was looking out the window, pointing out interesting sights along the way.

I was to busy lost in thought, on the summer ahead. I thought to myself this summer was going to be different and i was gonna make sure it was. I felt like everything was changing.

The views were breathtaking, the ocean stretched out before us, the waves crashing against the shore. As we drove along the winding coastal road, we passed by the quaint towns and charming shops, each one more picturesque than the last.

The air was filled with the sound of seagulls and the smell of saltwater, I love this feeling, the feeling that i'm finally back home.
