P A R T 1 6

I woke up to my alarm ringing in my ears, i turn over to my bedside table and switch off my phone. I look at the time and see the date, omg todays belly and I's birthday i think to myself. I jump out of bed and quickly get dressed into a hoodie and some shorts, i slip on some socks while heading to the bathroom, i wash my face and brush my teeth and apply some mascara and lipgloss all in a record of 5 minutes.

I ran across the halfway to belly's room i open her door to see her still sleep. I get up on her bed and start jumping "wake up bells it's our birthday!!" i say excitedly

"gosh lex what time is it" belly said while her eyes were still closed

"uh 9am" i say

"too early, to early" she says sitting up laughing

"come on bells" i say dragging her arm to get her out of bed

"fine, fine i'll go get ready" she hesitates

"okay see ya, don't be long" i say walking out of her room.

I head downstairs and everyone else was in the kitchen. Mom was making breakfast, mickey mouse pancakes she made those every year for us on our birthday.

"happy birthday beautiful girl" Susannah's says squeezing me into a tight hug.

"happy birthday darling" my mom said hugging me and handing me my pancakes

"thanks mom" i say hugging her back

"happy birthday lex" conrad said pulling me into a hug

"finally lexis at the maturing age now" steven said jokingly

It wasn't my actual birthday it was belly's, mine was always the week before we came to cousins so, we decided to just celebrate my birthday the same day as belly's. As a kid i love it growing up we'd have joint birthday party's, but as i grew up i wish i had my own day, a day where nothing seemed to be about belly.

I look at jeremiah, to see if he would wish me a happy birthday but got nothing, we made eye contact then he just looked away. I know i said i didn't want anything to do with him but, i didn't really mean it. I don't know what i was expecting though for him to beg on his knees and tell me he's sorry.

I sit on a stool while mom handed me my pancakes, conrad gets me the syrup and i drown my pancakes in it. Belly eventually comes down and everyone wishes her a happy birthday even jeremiah. I was disappointed as he didn't even care to say anything to me, i felt really hurt.

Eventually we go to the family room to open presents "here open mine first" my mom said handing me and belly a book each.

"uh thanks mom" i say awkwardly

"don't be silly its not just a book open to the bookmark page" my mom said laughing

"oh yeah i remember susannah teaching us to recite this poem" belly says

"for whatever it's worth" me and belly say together.

"like a you or a me, it's always ourselves we find in the sea" the boys joined in

"thanks mom i love it" i say

"here open mine you guys will love it" conrad said handing us a little box each

I open it up and see a spotify plaque with a picture of me, belly, connie, steven and jeremiah from when we were little, the song on the plaque was "sparks" by coldplay.

"scan it" conrad said

i scan it and it played the lyrics
♫ i promise you this, i'll always look out for you, yeah that's what i'll do ♫

Me and belly awed in unison, it was the most thoughtful present ever "thank u so much conrad i love it alot" i say going in for a hug.

"thanks connie" bells said

"me next" susannah said getting excited handing us both a box

I let belly open hers first, susannah had gotten her a pearl necklace, susannah puts it around belly's neck while saying "my mom give me these pearls when i turned 16"

"thank u susannah i love it" belly said hugging her

"okay my turn" i said opening the box, i reveal a pandora bracelet already filled with charms

"my mom got me that when i turned 18 susannah said helping me put on the bracelet.

"i love it, it's so pretty thank you" i say squeezing her

"think fast" steven said while throwing a present at me and belly each

"steven!" mom called out giving him the 'behave' look.

Me and belly unwrap the wrapping paper at the same time to reveal a Princeton hoodie, mine was white, belly's was black.

"omg u finally decided to spend money on us" belly and i said laughing

"chill, i just don't want you guys stealing mine when i get in" steven laughed

Mom starts to question him about the fact he was still applying for Princeton, i knew she was disappointed as she wanted him to stay in state.

"uh jeremiah want to give the girls your present" susannah said to change to the topic

Jeremiah gets up and hands belly a box but me nothing "uh here bells and uh lexi i forgot." he claimed with his head down.

"anyway i got to go ive got stuff to do" jeremiah said walking out.

My mom, susannah and basically everyone gave jeremiah a funny look as in like "what the fuck". I brush it off and watch belly open her last present jeremiah had gotten her a good luck charm for her bracelet to help her pass her driving test.

"uh i'm gonna take my things to my room, but thank you everyone i love all the presents" i say heading up to my room.

I quietly ran up the stairs into my room slamming the door loud enough for jeremiah to hear as his room was right next to mine but, quiet enough so my mom and susannah couldn't hear. I place my present onto my bed and i could feel tears forming in my eyes, i blinked making them roll down my cheeks.

I sit in my bed and i start to cry, i had mascara on but, i didn't care. I felt so shit, I know i said some hurtful things to jeremiah but, he deserved it he had me feel so shit lately. I just didn't think he'd go this low.
