Day 94

It's been one month, the pumpkin feast is today, so is Dove Day! I'm actually a little excited.

The mysterious structure has been built but I still don't know what it is.

Levi has also been hiding something, he's been distant lately and I'm getting worried.

I feel someone shaking me awake and groan, "Eris! Wake up! Dove Day is today!" the voice exclaims, I open my eyes and meet Ava's lemon greens.

"Good morning." I greet rubbing my eyes, Ava gives me a small smile, "And happy Dove Day!" I grin getting up from my moldy, rotten mattress.

"Same to you Eris!" Ava beams, "Today," she continues, "we have to harvest the pumpkins in the field. Some will go to the royals while some will be taken to the market to be sold."

I nod and Ava gives me an approving look. "Now let's go!" she says walking out of the cell, "we cannot waste any more time."

The two of us go over to the field where some girls are already harvesting the orange pumpkins of various sizes. I notice the smaller ones are being kept for the market and the bigger ones are being harvested for the royal family.

We join the girls and start to chat while we farm, our voices are loud but the guards don't seem to notice.

"Eris!" Bell calls my name and I turn to her, "I can't get this pumpkin out of the ground, help me please."

I obey and go over to the young girl; we both work together to pull the large pumpkin out of the ground.

"Today is the best day!" Ava suddenly remarks, "I love the fact we can chat without getting punished."

"Yes!" A girl, Lucy chips in, "the guards are too focused on the pumpkin feast to even care."

"I wonder who is going to get sacrificed." I comment totally changing the subject.

"Oh yes!" Bell nods, "I hope it isn't me or my brother."

Lucy frowns, "It would be horrible if that happened."

"Well," Ava begins, placing a hand on her chest and frowning, "if today happens to be my last day, I want you girls to know you're all really good friends! Eris, it's been a pleasure!"

I smile, "Don't talk like that Ava, you'll be fine, we'll all be fine, but just in case..." I pause, a bit teary eyed, I've come to the realization, Ava is one of my first friends, one of the few people that don't see me as a monster, one of the few people that see me as a human being, that see me as normal.

"It's been a pleasure meeting you as well." I complete and Ava wraps me into a warm hug, I hug her back.

"Aww!" Bell coos and Lucy smiles.

The three of us continue harvesting until there are no more pumpkins left. All are kept in two wheelbarrows.

"Lucy and I will take the pumpkins to the vehicles." Ava tells us holding on to the wheelbarrow, "You guys can take the rest to the castle." She says referring to me and Bell.

They leave and we make our way to the castle, Bell starts keeping the harvested vegetables in the store.

I look around feeling a bit jobless and bored so I decide to visit Liv, it's been a while since we had a proper chat.

"Err, I'll be right back." I tell Bell, she tilts her head to the side confused.

'Where are you going?"

"To visit Liv." I shrug.

Bell's mouth curves upwards into a cheery smile, "Oh! Please can I come too?" She asks.
