Although Damon's mattress was extremely comfortable I just couldn't seem to fall asleep.
I was constantly thinking about the plan and then Damon and everything was filling my head. My sleeping pills were long gone, thrown away by Rebekah much to my dismay. I decided to get out of bed and see if Damon was still up. I couldn't help, but feel guilty for stealing his room and to be honest I'd love to see him sleep as well.

So I went downstairs and saw Damon just sitting on the couch tapping with his hands on his legs. He obviously heard me coming from afar and turned his head towards me. "Can't sleep?" He asked. I shook my head. "Why are you still up?" I asked him. He shrugged. "Can't sleep either. Tried to crash in Sun and Klaus' room, but the two lovebirds are busy. Didn't want to wake you." He looked at the ground. My guilt increased. See, I really was stealing his room. I asked him if he really didn't want his room back, but he declined the offer saying he much rather was awake anyway. I agreed.

"Fancy a drink?" I asked. If we couldn't be more than friends at least we could try and be just friends, right? He looked surprised and frowned. "Surprise me." He said with his familiar grin.
I walked over to the kitchen and made one of my mom's old recipes she always used to make whenever Sun and I had nightmares. You take a glass of milk, heat it and put some drops of vanilla in it. I specifically had taken the ingredients with me on this trip, for the sole purpose of making this. Yes, I had foreseen the sleepless nights.

I gave Damon a glass and sat next to him on the couch. He thanked me and I watched him try. The pleasure and delight was written all over his face and I couldn't help but glow inside. He was adorable. I didn't want to be caught staring however, so I myself began to take small sips.
This never disappointed. We quietly drank our drinks. Not an uncomfortable silence, no far from. It actually felt right.

The next day I woke up in Damon's bed covered with a blanket. I couldn't remember going back.
I guess I must have fallen asleep and then Damon must have carried me to his room. I woke up just early enough, because Jeremy and I had planned to wake up before all the others to go follow our first lead that led right back to my mom's childhood home.

Since Jeremy shared a room with Elijah he went up to my room to see if I was ready. When we both were, we sneaked out of the chalet and took the car. We typed the address in the GPS and drove off to our destination. Canyon valley.

When we arrived all we saw was the old remains of what used to be a farmhouse, all burned down.
I hadn't declared it a hopeless case just yet though, but got out of the car and walked over to the remnants of what used to be my mom's home. Jeremy and I searched for clues everywhere and we had almost given up hope when I found something, buried in a hollow woodblock. It must have some value if they had taken all this effort to bury and hide it.

It was a diary. "Rain Sherman's Diary" it read.
I felt closer to my mom than I had felt in months. On the way back to the chalet I pretty much read the whole thing, but nothing really stood out. Still sweet stories about her childhood, but nothing that could lead us further in our ongoing investigation.

When we got back at the chalet everyone else was gone. Elena had left a note telling us that they were at the lake most nearby, swimming.
"Up for a swim?" Jeremy asked grinning. "Always." I laughed. I grabbed my strapless tropical bathing suit top with matching high waisted bottoms and my brown sandals. I also grabbed a pouch and filled it with the essentials: my camera and some sunscreen. We stepped into the car again heading to the lake.
