gonta gokuhara prided himself on his ability to think critically.
using utmost perfect grammar and spelling, one could convey their critical thinking in an easy-to-digest way- which is exactly what gonta would do.

in fact, instead of the carpet outside of his doorstep saying "welcome" or "home sweet home" or something, it said, quite fancifully, "i hail you into this humble household."

and, of course, this carpet was the first thing that maki noticed when she arrived at gonta's house for the red tortoise.

maki had decided to arrive 10 or so minutes early, so she was already at gonta's house, reading his less than normal doormat.

"i hail you into- hail? like, the weather? silly gonta! weather can't let you into someone's house!," maki giggled, smiling. she found it rather amusing.
she then knocked on the door.

gonta promptly opened the door.

he stood there, a plate of biscuits in his left hand.
"greetings, miss harukawa. please, do make yourself at home- metaphorically, of course. there are crumpets here, should you desire to eat one, as well as lemonade. do be warned that it is natural lemonade, meaning I have not added any sugar."

maki nodded cheerfully. "okay! thank you, gonta! oh! i brought my laptop, but I was wondering- why do we need it?"

"i will explain everything once the others arrive," gonta explained. he stepped aside to let Maki into his house. "please, do wait in the den."

"...the what now," maki asked, staring up at gonta blankly.

"the den?," gonta repeated.

"what room is that??," maki asked again.

"the one with the recliner," gonta explained, "and the television and such."

"ohh! the living room! yeah! okay! sorry, I only speak average-grammar," maki admitted, finally entering the house.

suddenly, miu ran up to the house, holding a giant backpack.
the backpack had a picture of a lion on it, that was captioned "puppies."

"i'm here! golly, i am so sorry if i'm late!," miu yelled as she approached the house.
she stopped at the doorway, panting heavily. she put her hands on her knees as she caught her breath, staring down at the doormat.

"h-hail?? wha... anyways-! i- i'm here..!," miu panted.

after a minute of catching her breath, she stood up straight again.

"i also went out and bought a bunch of chargers to keep our laptops and ipads afloat... but, uh, I wasn't sure what model everyone had? so i just. i bought them all!," miu cheered.

gonta gave her a small smile. "excellent thinking, miss iruma. you are extremely thoughtful. please go to the de- ahem. living room. miss harukawa is already waiting there. hopefully, mister momota and miss yonaga will arrive soon."

miu ran into the living room.

gonta stood at the door, waiting for the others to show up.

after waiting for around 5 minutes, both didn't show.
so, gonta decided to start the planning party without them.

he walked into the den- er, living room, sorry- and placed the plate of biscuits down on the coffee table. he then sat down on the couch in between maki and miu.
