As I lay on my bed my phone started aggressively ringing. I look at the screen to see Leila's name flashing.

When I first moved to Saranac, I decided to attend high school here and pretended to be 16.

While I was in high school, Leila and I became extremely close. At first, she thought I was a human like everyone else but the moment she started practicing magic she caught on.

When I eventually told her the truth we both only got closer. We are each other's only friends who know each other's secrets.

Although she was a witch who was supposed to hate vampires, she welcomed me with open arms.

She showed me the true definition of a friend when I needed it the most.

Leila had been out of town visiting some relatives in Chicago and I forgot she was coming back today due to all the shit I've been dealing with.

"Hello," I said over the line.

"God damn it, Seth! You scared the shit out of me. I was so worried. The only time you don't answer your phone is when you're dealing with bullshit."

There was a moment of silence before Leila started again "Wait there's bullshit going on isn't there?"

"Yeah kinda. I will have to explain it in person but I'm not dying and I'm okay for right now."

I heard a sigh of relief over the line. I instantly felt bad for not answering her texts and calls. I know how badly she worries about me.

"As long as you're okay then I don't care," Leila said not upset at the fact I didn't answer her for 2 days straight.

"We are in serious need of catching up." We both said at the same causing us both to laugh.

"How about tomorrow morning you swing by the cemetery and we can charge up together?" Leila offered.

She knew me so well. I needed to spend time with my best friend and dead souls who lie in a field of land.

That sounds so gruesome. Maybe I shouldn't think of it that way.

"That would be perfect Lei"

"I'll see you in the morning Sethy." With that, the call ended.

I reached over to my dresser and plugged in my phone before going into the bathroom to get ready for the day.

I started with a steaming hot shower then I went into my nighttime skincare routine.

Once I was done I went downstairs to grab a glass of water where I was met by not one but both of my brothers. How lovely.

Nick was lying on the couch watching TV and Easton was in the kitchen cooking. Twice in one day, is he bored or something?

"Where the hell have you been all day?" Easton said, his dad instincts kicked in.

"You had a shift that you completely skipped. If you don't want to work just tell me and I'll give your shift to someone else."

I completely forgot about my shift today. I didn't even have an excuse that I could actually tell Easton.

He was staring at me waiting for a response when his hands were at his sides.

"I completely forgot Eas, Im sorry." His eyes softened as soon as he realized I really did forget.

"It's okay but you're taking an extra shift next Saturday to make up for it." I gave him the okay before heading over to the living room to see Nick.

I jumped over the couch and sat next to Nick as he watched "Love Island".
