Pulling my (H/C) up into a pony tail, I worked intricately with my fingers and dug deep within the omnic's chest to examine the damage. I had already extracted the torn, unfixable wires from his arm, and pulled any chipped metal from inside out to avoid cutting myself and damaging his interior further. I mumbled to myself as I worked, and he whirred in response, shocking my arm. I pulled my arm out with a gasp, holding my arm close to my chest. He whirred again worriedly as an apology.
"No, no, it's okay. I need to fix the voice box anyways, thank you for reminding me."
Once I had caught my breath after getting back into my house, I took him into my kitchen and closed all of the blinds to reveal the full electrical set within the back of my kitchen cabinets. His damage was nowhere near irreparable, and I was quite impressed considering the state he was when I found him.
Pulling out a spare wire from my kit, I blindly connected it to the wire behind the plate on his throat to the base of his head, and sat back. I rubbed my hands with a spare towel to wipe off excess oil and sighed, "Try now."
"S-S-S-Speak-k-ing," His voice glitched, and I frowned, going back to work. I must have connected the wrong wires. I looked silently again, examining as best I could and decided to look into my tool kit for a mirror. Finding one, I put it in his chest to get a better view of what I couldn't see, and smiling lightly when I saw the loose wire I should have connected the spare to. Putting the mirror away, I rolled up my sleeves once more. Both of my hands disappeared behind his chest plate to continue working, and I could only imagine how weird this must have felt to him.
"You know," I hummed, furrowing my brows as I grasped for the wire, "You're better, stronger, faster, and smarter than humans. I think that's why people hate omnics. They're jealous of everything they'll never be."
I chuckled until another shock sparked my fingertips, less intense than the last time, and beamed with joy. My cheek pressed tightly against his cool metallic chest plate, and as embarrassed as I was I tried to keep it professional. Pulling back, I crossed my arms, my oil stained fingertips wiped on my forearms. I motioned him to attempt to speak again.
"Attempting to speak," A successful smooth sentence came from the omnic, and I smiled brightly.
"There we go! Good as new!" I adjusted my chair to get a better view of his arm and I began cutting away at spare wires that no longer served a purpose. I grabbed a spare piece of scrap metal to fill the hole where his arm used to sprout from, and began welding it into place.
"Thank you," He whirred, and I glanced at him with a small smile.
"You're not fixed yet," I murmured, finishing up his arm and leaning back in my chair to admire my work.
"For helping me in the first place," Voice falling like silk as compared to before, I couldn't help but be proud of myself.
"Of course. I don't have all of the materials needed to fix up the minor details, so this will have to do for now."
Standing up, I went into the kitchen to grab a pen and paper, jotting down the address of Dr. Helio and I's 'office' as well as my name. The omnic observed my motions as I hurried around the kitchen and back to him. Handing it to the omnic, I crossed my arms with a smile still pulling at my lips.
"I run a small underground office with my partner, if you come there sometime tomorrow evening we can repair everything else there," I uncrossed my arms and began putting my materials away, going to the sink to wash my hands. Only then did I remember my head as the crimson flakes from dried blood on my hands drifted down the drain.
The omnic whirred from behind me, glancing at the curtains on the window. I scrunched my nose for a split second in thought, bringing a cold wash cloth up to my head, "You can wait out the rest of the night here and leave first thing in the morning. I wouldn't doubt those guys are still prowling for some sorry soul they can harass."
