Groaning quietly, I sat up on my bed. Looking around the dark room, I had no conception of time, and my eyes widened slightly. My already racing heart, worried that I had slept in too late, picked up an even faster pace when I recalled the events from just hours ago. I wondered to myself if it had even happened, plausible that it had only been a nighmare. I swung my legs over the side of my bed and shuddered at the cold temperature of the room, connecting eyes with the white uniform wadded up in a ball in the corner.

Walking over to it, I picked it up and observed it closely. Flakes of dried blood stuck crisp against the chest, and another shiver racked through my body. Attempting to wipe it off, with little to no avail, I pursed my lips and begun changing back into it. A pity that Reyes did not offer a second uniform, but I assumed it would come in time.

Briefly changing, I pulled the Blackwatch lab coat on and the sound of knuckles wrapped against my door. My heartbeat halted, wondering if Genji had returned to add the cherry on top to my fears he had already stacked so high. Shakily stepping to my door, it slid open once it scanned my hand and Reyes stood on the other side. Swallowing the lump that rose quickly in my throat, I laced my hands behind my back.

"Commander Reyes," I quickly squeaked, keeping my gaze locked with his best I could. His eyebrows were furrowed and his eyes were narrowed. Biting my bottom lip, he took a step back to let me through.

"You're late, Ms. (L/N)." Late for what? Never once had any schedule been set into place, but I guess fuck me for not reading his mind. Mindlessly, I followed. My hair was a knotted mess, and I attempted combing my fingers through it to tame it. I pulled it back into a messy bun, and Reyes grunted.

"You met with Genji last night. Entertain me, how did it go?"

I shot him a look of fear, gazing down at my feet.

"It... went." A short and simple response. He stopped walking and I stopped abruptly, scared at how close I came to running into him.

"Genji is one of our best soldiers. He prefers privacy, silence, and little to no distractions."

"Yeah, I picked that up." I winced slightly remembering how angered he became at the idea I read through his file.

"But," Reyes turned over his shoulder, looking at me without malice for the first time. He actually looked like he wanted to have a conversation. "He is a good man with a horrible origin. Genji takes warming up to, but he is not all spite. He has a heart under the metal."

Just like that, Reyes begun walking again. I stood frozen in my place for a second, surprised that the cyborg had anything other than an intent to kill- seeing as he was covered in blood with no care last night. We continued our walk in silence, coming to the room I had wandered into my first day here. This time, the sounds of combat filled the room, soldiers sparring on the mats.

Off in the corner, I caught a glimpse of red and metal. Genji.

In another far off mat, I spotted Cassidy. Grimacing and rolling my eyes, I turned to Reyes.

"Commander, why am I here?"

Smirking, he looked down to me, "You think a medic just sits around in a lab all day?"

Yes?

"You will be engaged into combat sooner or later. So," Standing off to the side, he jutted his head towards the mats, "Get in there."

I looked to the burly soldiers, all with a look of malice and not resisting pain to their opponents. Shoving me forward slightly, I stumbled and rubbed my arms nervously.

"Cease," Reyes' voice echoed throughout the room, and an immediate blanket of silence fell over the room. All eyes feel either to me or Reyes, and I looked back at him sheepishly.
