The next morning came quickly, and while I didn't have the opportunity to bid Genji farewell before we left, he was all that was on my mind. I selfishly longed for his embrace once more, should anything go wrong while I was in Rome. I hadn't seen him all morning, and I pursed my lips tightly in fear that he didn't want to see me after yesterday's events.

"L/N, you're spacin' off."

I shook my head, snapping myself out of the daze of burnt sienna eyes and turned to Cole. I gripped my luggage in my hand, handing it to him and stepping into the flight bay. Black jets littered the hangar, the one we were flying noticeably smaller than the rest. It was a small crew, and we were trying to fly under the radar as to not draw attention. Reyes, Cassidy, Sanjay, a few soldiers and that was it. It whirred and boomed against the walls as it powered up, limiting communication between everyone to screaming.

Following Cole onto the jet, I took a seat next to him, shifting uncomfortably in my newest uniform, courtesy of Reyes this morning. It was darker than my previous one, a black jumpsuit with my usual Blackwatch lab coat. I eyed the band around my arm, showing I was a medic. Cole elbowed me, smiling.

"You'll be fine!"

Before I knew it, everyone had loaded up and we began our ascent. Once in the air, the jet grew quiet, no one speaking. It would be a long flight, most soldiers leaning their heads back to rest. I tried to do the same for a decent bulk of time, but unable. I couldn't rid my mind of Genji.

"Everything alright, darlin'?" Cole whispered in a hushed tone, as to not wake any of the other soldiers.

"It's nothing."

"I know how to read a woman pretty well, and I can proudly say you're lyin'."

"Apparently not if you didn't get the hint I wasn't interested first time we met." I joked back, smiling smugly.

Rolling his eyes, he crossed his arms and chuckled, "You gon' tell me or not?"

I looked up at the ceiling, sighing and closing my eyes.

"Something happened with Genji."

"What? Um, what happened?"

I grew suspicious and narrowed my eyes at him, "What do you know?"

He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders, mumbling under his breath. "Whatever do ya mean?"

"If I were to ever say something that involved Genji you'd get into a hissy fit. What are you up to, Cassidy?"

He held his hands up in defense, "Nothin', honest."

"If I find out you're lying to me, I am pretty damn handy with a scalpel." Cole snorted and nodded his head, leaning it back and placing his hat over his face to rest.

"Whatever ya say, L/N."

I chuckled, fiddling with my fingers as he dozed off to sleep. His snores made it difficult to rest, so I got little to no sleep. Turning next to me, a soldier bobbed their knee consistently.

"Nervous?" Turning to look at me through their helmet, they didn't respond. Like all the other soldiers, they wore the usual Blackwatch uniform and blackout tinted helmet. I smiled softly, leaning back in my seat. "I am."

The soldier slowly looked down at the floor, knee eventually coming to a stop. He crossed his arms, holding his stare with the floor. I shrugged it off, leaning my head back into the seat and closing my eyes, only to be reminded of every little scar scattered across Genji's chest, and the brief smile I saw in the med bay. Huffing, I squeezed my eyes shut tighter until I let myself fall into a slumber.

"Line 'em up!" Reyes' voice echoed throughout the jet, abruptly shaking both Cassidy and I from sleep. Grumbling under my breath, I glanced at the soldiers lined up in a row with guns, standing in formation. I elbowed Cassidy to speed up the process, and we hurried to stand as well. Marching us off of the jet, I felt sweat already dripping down my back in the humid climate and under the summer sun. A few black cars lined the tarmac, men dressed professionally holding the doors open.

"Cassidy, L/N, Greene- with me. Everyone else- pile into a car." Reyes hollered, sliding into the the first car. I took note of the soldier that had sat beside me on the jet, Greene, making me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one here feeling so nervous. Reyes sat in the front while Cassidy, Greene, and I all squished into the back. It was uncomfortable, but luckily the drive to the city was short. Though I had no idea where we were headed, I marveled at the tall buildings and industrial city. I lost myself in thought to pass time, zoning out as the minutes passed. I was in uncharted lands, yet I couldn't help but be both nervous and fascinated by the idea. Yet, I still was unable to shake the embarrassment of last night's events. I was inches away from some level of intimacy with Genji, and I couldn't help but scold myself.

I was so close to something I wanted, yet it was with someone I had quickly grown from distaste to entranced with. After rerunning the events in my mind a several hundred times, Reyes muttered a 'We're here.' Pulling up to a large building, it was discrete. No labels on the outside, no sort of designations, and I identified it as Rome's Blackwatch base.

Pulling into the large gates, we parked up by some grand entrance. A set of stairs leading to a set of double doors. Everyone stepped out of their cars, stretching from the long journey here. Reyes looked around before walking up to me and leaning next to my ear.

"Remember, the band around your arm is a target. Greene is going to stick with you, but keep your eyes moving and don't grow comfortable, alright?" I nodded and looked over his shoulders to see a tall man with broad shoulders descending down the staircase. He had a bushy mustache and disheveled brown hair.

"Ah, Gabriel Reyes. I hope the journey was comfortable."

"As much as it could be, Gérard."

"Didn't run into any trouble?"

"No where near as much as we did in Cape Town."

Gérard released a booming laugh, slapping Reyes on the back and wiping away a tear. "Ah, yes. How could I forget? Come, I'll show you everyone's temporary quarters."

Quickly unloading my luggage from the trunk of the car, I followed quickly behind Reyes. The silent solider, Greene, following shortly behind me, as well. Walking into the large base, it was visibly new from the cleanliness and updated technology. My jaw slightly dropped at the grand room, drones completing sanitary tasks and a secretary behind the desk typing obnoxiously loud on a keyboard. Turning to Greene, I smiled brightly.

"This place is so cool!" I whispered, to which he nodded slightly.

"This must be the medic you have been raving about, Reyes," I hadn't even realized both Reyes and Lacroix had set their gaze upon me. I looked to Reyes, who smiled and nodded.

"Quite the miracle worker she is. Seen her diagnose and treat within an hour, if not less."

"Mm, may have to transfer her here if she's as good as you say. A lot of Talon attacks as of late."

"No can do, Gérard. This one's for home base." Reyes chuckled, tilting his head slightly and placing his hands on his hips.

"Not much for bargaining, are you, Reyes?"

The two continued their conversation concerning Talon attacks as the last few Blackwatch soldiers funneled in. Gérard led us to our temporary quarters, a large room with bunkbeds lined up against the wall and two separate bathrooms. Since I'm the only woman, it'll be nice to have my own bathroom. I can take long showers- which is a saving grace.

"Unpack then meet in the conference room. We have much to discuss."

Nodding, we all unpacked and arranged our belongings. Our next stop- the conference room.
