I sat on the cot, rewrapping the nearly healed wound on my thigh. I grimaced slightly at the memories, Akande's face engraved in my mind. Picturing his face helped get me through the pain slightly, a wave of anger and resentment washing over the discomfort and pain. Genji spun on a swivel chair in front of me, and I rolled my eyes at how sudden his behavior had changed in a matter of days.
"Are you almost done?" He prompted, spinning until he faced me and stopped. I snorted softly, firmly sticking the adhesive wrap to complete the bandage.
"Why?"
"I want to spar."
I shrugged and looked at the time, it wasn't terribly late and the bay had been slow, like usual. He stood up and held his hand out, helping me slide off the cot and regain my balance. Once I grew used to the pressure, I sighed and squeezed his hand lightly. He looked at me with curiosity, causing me to bite my lower lip out of anxiousness.
"There is something I want to ask you."
"That is worrisome." I sighed and turned away from him, placing the unused bandages back in the first aid kit.
"What is going on with Reyes? Don't try lying to me, I can tell something is up and you know what it is." I turned back to him with a stern look to see Genji shifting the weight between his feet nervously.
"I really... cannot say."
"Genji, come on, it's just me!" I whined quietly, turning completely towards him.
"(Y/N), I could lose my position if I were to say-"
"So something is going on." He glared at me, and I nodded while in thought. Several possibilities ran through my mind. A break in the case with Akande? Stress from the presumed attack? Him and Jack finally-
"You are going to hurt yourself from thinking so hard. Stop thinking." He rolled his eyes and began walking out of the med bay with me following closely behind. Walking through the twisted hallways into the training area, I was still lost in thought at the idea something bigger than us was going on. Was I in even greater danger than before?
The thought made me cringe, knowing what the possibilities were. I missed being pure and unknowing about Blackwatch, oblivious to what could happen to me here. I was ripped from my thoughts at the familiar face also practicing on the mats. We locked eyes and he cocked a shit eating grin.
"Well, I'll b'damned. Rumors are true." I laughed and ran up to Cole, who held his arms out to welcome the hug. He lightly hugged back, smiling sheepishly at Genji, who glared daggers.
"You really thought I could get rid of that easily?" I turned and smirked at Genji, "Not to discredit you for bringing me back."
Genji nodded and stood behind me, and everything felt back in place. The appreciation lasted seconds before I reeled back from Cole, realizing how much he was sweating and how badly he smelt.
"You need to take a shower." I grimaced, wiping the sleeves of my arms against my hips to rid myself of any odor I may have transferred onto myself. Cole chuckled, wiping the sweat off his brow and nodding.
"Yeah I've been in here for a minute. We're leaving in a few hours to head out for a mission that's gonna get physical. Reyes is takin' this attack real serious and wants to stop it before it even starts."
I nodded in response, "So I've heard." I turned to Genji who stood closely behind me, "Are you going?"
Genji did a curt nod, looking to Cole, "Speaking of that matter, we should be getting prepared."
Cole agreed, smiling at me briefly, "See ya in a few, (Y/N)." I waved in response, and stood with Genji to watch the other soldiers sparring.
"I need to go," He stated, turning and looking over his shoulder, "Will you be joining me?"
