Necessities for the mission were packed, and I felt anxious at the nearing events. I wouldn't be brought along unless there was suspicions of an attack. Feeling in disarray, I wiped my forehead of the beading sweat, stepping into the med bay. As instructed, Genji remained sitting on the cot, legs crossed and meditating. Silently, I tried to move past him and out the door, as to not disturb him.
"Leaving?" The thick accent rolled off his tongue and I felt my shoulders spike upwards. Pivoting on my heel, I sheepishly rubbed the back of my neck and smiled.
"I was trying to be quiet."
Shaking his head, he uncrossed his legs and leaned back on his forearms.
"You do understand I was raised to be a ninja?"
Rolling my eyes with a smirk, I waved him on. "I was going to monitor the sparring, give myself something to do. Care to join me?"
Thinking about it for a brief second, he nodded and walked to my side. Our footsteps echoed through the quiet halls, the sounds of distant fighting growing nearer with every step. Finally stepping into the large room, several soldiers were throwing each other to the mats and grunting with every movement. Reyes stood on a balcony above everyone, crossing his arms and overseeing their movements like a hawk. His eyes fell upon Genji and I, smiling slightly and beginning a decent down the stairs towards us.
"Y/N, Genji- what brings you here?"
"Finished packing and trying to kill time. Anything I can do?"
"Most of them have too much pride to come forward about an injury." Reyes shook his head and sighed, turning back to the soldiers, "One of 'em could be shot and they'd say they were fine."
I nodded, and viewed the floor only to see one familiar face.
"Commander, who is that?" Pointing towards the man with tan skin and usual shaggy brown hair. I had only seen him in professional attire- seeing him in the soldier's black jumpsuit was an unusual sight.
"Ah, Sanjay? He oversees a lot of Blackwatch's negotiations and needs. Has he caused you any problems?"
"No, he is just... an oddball." I shrugged, and watched his movements. "He's also kind of a dick."
"How so?" Reyes questioned, and I could see Genji peering at me out of the corner of his eyes also out of curiosity.
Quick and precise, he pinned every opponent he was up against ruthlessly. I winced slightly until I saw who was next in line. None other than the cowboy casanova, Cole Cassidy.
Oh this'll be good.
Cole stepped onto the mat, bending slightly at the knees and taking on Sanjay as our conversation continued.
"Just another soldier here who tries to put me down. Doesn't think I'm good enough to be here." Cole was slammed into the ground, groaning slightly out of pain and tapped. I snorted slightly and headed towards him on the mat, holding out a hand.
"Damn sid-"
"Sidewinder? Be a little more unique, Cassidy." He grabbed my hand and I pulled him to his feet so he could brush off. Grumbling under his breath, he looked over my shoulder to see Reyes and Genji standing a ways behind me.
"You gotta lil' pup following you around now?"
"Genji?" I turned to look at Genji who's eyes narrowed in our direction, "He had an incident. He's on medical leave under my supervision."
"What's new?"
"Don't be a dick, Cole."
"Since when do you care? He's been nothin' more than a snake ta ya." Biting slightly at my bottom lip I shrugged and shifted my weight between my feet.
