On Monday I came to class late. I knocked on the locked classroom door. When mrs tuddy opened it I could see nick sitting in my seat staring out the window with earbuds in.
"Karl? I didn't think you were going to be here today" mrs tuddy said surprised "sweetheart you look tired whens the last time you slept or had something to eat?"
"Hm? Oh I'm fine, I just slept in late. Why did you think I wouldn't come today?"
"Well your mother-" she sighed and walked into the hallway closing the door so no one heard us "your mother called me saying you were missing, said you might be having a mental episode because of your sister"
"No I'm fine. I'm not having a mental episode. My mom over reacts sometimes" I said annoyed
"Well I'm going to call her and let her know you're in class"
"No wait- don't do that"
"Well why not?" She asked in a very pushy tone
"Be- because I'm going to call her at lunch. I don't want her to come barging into the school to find me" I said quietly as two girls walked past us
"Alright, but if something like this happens again I will call her"
We both walked into the classroom. Everyone stared at me as I walked over to nick. He looked at me unimpressed at first but when he realized it was me he stood up quickly.
"Karl-"
"You're in my seat."
"Oh"
He grabbed his stuff and sat in his seat. He looked genuinely hurt. I sat down and looked at him considering saying something.
"I'm sorry for getting mad at you karl but you can't go around being all buddy buddy with my ex and pretend it's nothing" he said before I had a chance to say anything
"You were horrible to him!"
"What are you talking about? I loved him more then I've ever loved a person!" Nick said defensively
"You cheated!"
"That wasn't cheating! I was having a mental breakdown!"
"Do you cheated?! You hurt Wilbur!"
"I didn't hurt Wilbur! He's fucking crazy like his father!"
"Who is his father?!?"
"William gold! Gold! You've never heard for the gold family?! Jesus Karl!"
"Oh how dare I not know ever piece of lore in this god awful town!?"
"Oh my god Karl!"
"Boys that's quite enough! No yelling in the classroom!" Mrs tuddy ylled at me and nick.
The bell rang and I left before Nick had a chance to catch up with me. They closed the bathroom that me and Nick had sex in. I went outside to the courtyard and studied every building to find the tallest one. I got knocked over by someone running past me.
"Shit sorry man" the guy said
I looked at him. Teller then me, British, blond, and skinny. He held me up before running off. I heard someone yelling after him. A smaller, maybe 5'10 boy with fluffy brown hair, he was also British. Why do so many British people live in this town. They smaller boy was running after the blond but looked out of breath as he slowed down.
"Tommy you dickhead!" The boy yelled
He crouched down while panting trying to catch his breath. Another one appeared. 6'6 with light brown hair and a mask on. The light brown hair boy caught up to the smaller one and crouched with him
"You okay Toby?"
"Yeah I'm fine mark. Tommy took my phone and keys" Toby sighed
I guess I had been staring at them because the Toby boy looked up and made a face at me. I immediately looked away from them and tried acting like I wasn't looking.
"Where's he even going?" Mark commented not noticing me
"Probably to our next period" Toby sighed
"We never should have matching our schedules" the mark guy laughed. With that the two stood up and ran to their next class.
The bell rang which ment all the doors were locked. I determined that the tallest building was the library. I texted wil to open a door for me. He showed up at one of the doors, opening it for me.
"How did you get locked out? Your classes are in this building" he said while we walked
"I needed a breath of fresh air" I shrugged
We went to the library where Wil continued to work on whatever he was doing. I walked around the library studying every window and door. I noticed a door with a small window on it. I looked through the window and saw stairs that I assumed lead to the roof.
"Hey Wil where do those stairs lead?" I asked while walking over to him
"The roof, they go up there every Friday morning to get and footballs that flew up there" he said not looking at me
"Oh okay." I said before sitting down and working on the class work I hadn't done yet
After school I walked around town looking at the shops and over decorated restaurants. While walking I noticed an abandoned playground. I jumped the fence sarounding the play ground and sat on a swing. I probably sat there for ten minutes staring at the ants under me before I heard noises behind me. I looked around and noticed someone sitting in one of the slides.
I don't know why I did this I guess I felt brave. I walked over to the slide to see who was sitting in it.
"Colby?"
"Karl?!"
He slipped and fell down the slide, he quickly stood up embarrassed.
"What are you doing here?" We asked at the same time
"You've been gone for days!" Colby said walking back to the top of the slide
"I'm almost a legal adult it doesn't matter what I do! Why are you sitting alone in a abandoned playground?" I said sitting down next to him
"My friends are all fighting with each other and I stopped getting involved in the drama, so I came here to be alone" he said looking down the slide
"You're friends are fighting already? It's not even a month into the school year" I giggled
"Oh yeah? Where are you're friends?"
"... you're literally a child shut up"
"Yeah that what I thought" he said grinning
"Whatever, we don't need friends we're cool and sexy" I said smiling at him
"Damn right we are" he giggled
We sat watching clouds in silence for a little before colby absolutely baffled me
"I think I might be trans"
