Y/n's pov:

I was in Noonan's checking some emails on my laptop. When Adam walked in, he gave a wave at me then sat on the seat across mine.

"Mom said she booking a dinner reservation for the three of us." I nodded in response. "How's Carter?" He asked making me look up at him

"He's okay. He's opening up more and more." I said and he nodded in response.

"How long have you known Kara?" He asked. I closed my laptop and looked at him.

"About a month i think. Why?" I asked him.

"Nothing. Do you know if she's dating anyone?" He asked making me laugh a little.

"You met her hours ago and you're already asking if she's dating anyone?" I said both of us laugh.

"She's pretty. I heard that she takes care of Carter sometimes." He said. I nodded and took a sip of my coffee.

"Yeah she is pretty. And yes, she takes care of Carter sometimes." He nodded in response.

"So.. is she dating anyone?" He asked again.

"You should ask her yourself." I said with a slight smirk on my face.

A few hours had passed. I got to the restaurant my mother reserved for me, Adam and her.

We were talking for a bit. Well our mother was. "I'll never forget, I was at a party with Bill Gates, and i said, 'Bill, people want to read the news thin little screens they can hold in the palm of their hand' and well, of course, he blew it. And now Lord Technologies has made how many thousands of millions of them?" She said then took a sip of her drink.

"Wow. What else did you invent, Cat?" Adam asked sarcastically.

"Okay, I get it. Enough about me. I want to know more about you two." she said.

"What do you want to know?" Adam asked looking at her.

"How's Cornell going? Did you finish your Masters yet?" She asked Adam.

"I dropped out." He said looking down at his food.

"Wow. Well, you know, some of the nation's greatest minds never finished college." She said trying to comfort Adam? "I remember my first year sitting in endless lectures, thinking i would learn more doing. So, i did. I went and got my first internship at the Daily Planet."

Adam crossed his arms "did you come to dinner just so you could talk about yourself?" Adam said to our mother.

"Of course not." She said. Adam squinted his eyes a little.

"Did you even write that letter?"he asked and there was a short pause before our mother spoke.

"Yes." She said and i know she was lying. Kara told me about the letter last week after she wrote it.

Adam looked at her with a non believing look. "I thought, after reading what you wrote, that you wanted things to be different. You're not even trying." He said and i sighed slightly agreeing with him.

"What do you want me to say?" She asked him. Adam paused for a second then responded.

"I guess i came to hear you say you're sorry. To both me and Y/n actually." He said.

"I am sorry. I'm sorry. I wanted to be there. But you two have to understand that I wouldn't have been a good mom. I wasn't ready." She said making Adam chuckle a little.

"I get it. It's about you. It's always been about you." Adam said " Thanks for dinner, Cat." He then got up and left.

I looked at my mother who had a sad look on her face. "I'm sorry, but he's right." I looked up at her then continued. "We were just babies when you left. But we really needed our mom. I knew you weren't ready. And i get it." I said with a small smile. I then got up from my seat putting my jacket that was hanging on the chair then put it on. "Thank you, mom. And i think you should really talk to Adam. Alone." I said and as i was about to leave the restaurant, but she spoke.

"Y/n." She said making look back at her. "I'm so sorry i left you with your dad. I knew he was a terrible person but i still left you alone to fend for yourself. I'm so sorry i never got to be your mom." She sad with tears in her eyes.

I gave her a sad smile "Thank you." I said then left. Once i left the restaurant, tears poured out.
